Shortly after Matt moved into Number 32 with the Hancock's, it became obvious that he had taken a shine to Flick Scully, although she failed to notice him, due to her relationships with Joel and Tad. His relationship with another girl failed after he objected to her being a stripper. He bought himself a flash car to attract women, but his new debt displeased Evan. He then angered van more when he announced he was giving up on education to work full time at the pub to be able to pay off his debts. This, however, did not pay as well as he had hoped and he started participating in drag races in order to win money. Leo took an interest in matt's hobby and watched some races. However, disaster struck when Leo insisted on riding with Matt in a race. Matt lost conttrol of the car and hit into his opponent, Glenn's car before hitting Harold and plunging into the bushes. At the hospital, Matt is devastated when he discovers that glenn could die, and Harold could be permanently blinded. There is further concern when the police pay a visit to talk about his drag racing - warning him he could end up in jail if Glenn dies. He runs away, and whilst Maggie and Evan panic about his whereabouts, Leo sneaks out to visit him. The police are soon hot on his trail, but Leo manages to get Matt to return home and face the music. Evan and Maggie are forced to sell the house to afford a lawyer for Matt in court and they move away. The verdict of Matt's court case was not announced on Neighbours. Another read up The eldest son of the Hancock family, Matt was easy going and everyone's mate. He fell for Felicity Scully, although Felicity didn't feel the same way. He became friends with the guys at Drew's garage, and worked for Lou at the pub. But things came to an end when Matt's younger brother damaged one of Matt's cars' engines, and this caused a fatal turn in a drag race which Matt was addicted to. This caused Matt to nearly blinding Harold Bishop and causing the other car in the race to crash into a tree, almost killing the guy in the car, and Matt felt so guilty that he ran away to hide at one of the beach houses. The guy in the car recovered but he brought Matt to court for manslaughter charges. After his younger brother found him, he was persuaded to come home, and the family decided to help him out in court. But in order to get a QC, they had to sell no32 as they couldn't afford one. So the family left Ramsay Street to stay with dad Evan's family and Matt was left doing community service over there after being found guilty of manslaughter charges.
