Max's children, Boyd and Summer, appeared in Neighbours with Nan Rosie before Max made an appearance. Max returned from a job on then oilrigs to visit his children, and Rosie made it clear to him that his children needed him around permanently. Therefore, he decided to stay in Erinsborough and set about getting himself a job at the pub, where he volunteered to have low pay to help Lou out with his money trouble. He also bought Number 32 off Mal for his family. It was obvious that, although he enjoyed being back woth his family, he had also forgotten what it was like to look after children. He made Boyd join a cricket team and started Summer doing piano lessons, which they were not keen on. He bonded easily with Boyd over sport and films but found it hard with Summer, who was not impressed when he bought her babyish things. Summer turned to Steph as a mother figure, which displeased Max and Steph and Max were soon at loggerheads over his parenting. However, this made him try harder with his children and Rosie advised Max to let Summer find a mother figure to replace their real Mum, who died when they were young. Although Steph and Max don't get on too well now, Libby has spotted a spark between them. Could Steph become a more permanent Mum for Summer? Sister Izzy is not too keen.
