Trial By Fire - The Fire Visualization

Thursday, July 17, 2003

So I managed to get through this lesson at last.  This was the hardest visualization for me, mostly because I was recovering from a cold all last week, and my mind was focused more on getting better rather than doing visualization.  I started easing myself back into things earlier this week, and last night was finally able to get results.

At the start, I visualized myself turning into a being of black smoke.  It was an interesting experience to say the least.  I then drifted up into the sky on a draft of wind, and once I got up high enough, I saw the sun.  It was so big!   I thought I would drown in the sight of it.  The color was the deep, deep red of the flesh of a blood orange (have you ever eaten one?  So delicious, and the color… spectacular!)  I could feel the pulsating rays of the sun beating down on me, energizing me… and then I moved forward, towards the sun.   A wall of fire blocked my path, and though I was a little skittish, I passed through it.  It stuck to me though, making me feel solid again, and no longer made of just smoke.  I landed on the sun, and it felt like I was standing on a giant tongue (I know, strange imagery.) As I looked around at the scenery, I saw flames that spouted out of the ground all around me.   Like Old Faithful, but with fire.  It was really hot, and I could feel the sweat beading up on my body.  I heard a sound in the distance, and began to walk toward it.  As I got closer, I saw something, a person made of fire, forging a sword.   The sword was made of copper and gold and was magnificent to look at.  As the fire person finished the sword, he looked up and saw me, and held out the sword to me.  I took it, and he immediately turned into a giant fire beast, roaring at me.   After that, I felt every ounce of rage I’ve ever known fill me.  I don’t know why, but I was extremely pissed off.  The creature attacked me and I countered with the sword.  It went on for a few minutes, but then I finally defeated the beast.   As it disappeared, it smiled and nodded to me.  I was actually saddened by it’s passing, but I also felt strangely relieved.  I moved on, and soon found myself walking through ruins of an ancient temple.  I found a well there, and I realized that I was very thirsty.   As I moved to go to the well, I noticed a woman dressed in white (almost ancient Greek style) with long dark brown hair.  She asked for the sword and I gave it to her.  She then offered me a drink of the water, which I gratefully took from her.   After I finished my drink, she offered me a diamond, which as I held it, shimmered with a brilliant light.  I began to make my way home, when I lost my grip on the diamond.  As I fell back into my body, I saw the diamond go supernova up in the sky.   It was like watching fireworks on the 4th of July!

I think what this visualization helped me face was my own inner rage.  I have a problem with my temper, and though I’ve gotten better at controlling it through the years, every once in a while, I just get pissed off.  There’s no logical reason for it, I just get mad, and I have no way to deal with it.   I generally take it out on people who are around me, which isn’t fair to them at all.  I think when those moments of rage come over me, I’m going to do this visualization again.  It was really helpful to me.

You did a great job on this visualization.  I especially liked the battle with the fire beast. I think it's very possible that this visualization would be very helpful in dealing with anger issues.  (Of course, I still want to buy a punching bag to exercise with.   Wouldn't that be a great stress reliever?)

I believe this lesson is ready to post.  Great job!
