Maps- Steading Of The Hill Giants
Instead of sitting there and placing them in proper "map" order, I'll be putting them in my own CHRONOLOGICAL order, so that people can see the improvements as I went along. (It's the only way I can actually feel decent about them!) I've learned a lot since those "early" days of map creation; I certainly hope it shows in the Giants maps you've been getting.
In all actuality, I'm not responsible for this map, and the author is unknown to me. I'm adding this particular piece due to the professionalism that's there! This is one of the better city maps I've seen, and I can only hope to aspire to this level, someday...
The second map I've ever created. Although I wasn't doing the best at this time, I did like the way the majority of this came through. (This was where my party was adventuring when I started with CC2- and, if they weren't sucked into a planar rift during an encounter in room 205b, they'd still be going at it!) This was a fun map to create, and print- one of my favorite things to do with my maps is to print them 1" = 10', so that I can drop it on the table as they go through the areas, so that I can see exactly where spells affect, etc. al.
This is only the third map I had ever created; and, to top it all off, I was doing everything wrong. My first mistake was to try to put each room on it's own sheet. (Using the SHEET command, you can actually ''hide'' rooms in this map!) The problem being, there is a bug in CC2, which does not allow for items on different sheets to maintain proper layering- so, that if you tried to ''bring to front / LAYER: Walls'', for example, there's the possibility that those items would drop off the sheet that they were assigned to. One of these days (when my party is ready to venture forth on this level), I'll have to go back to re-draw this map- I've learned quite a bit since these early days.
Picked up Dungeon Designer 2, and learned how to do Dungeon maps. These next maps will show a marked improvement...
...of course, picking up Dungeon Designer 2 doesn't mean you can't place too many symbols on a map, as I'm sure that both the Level 1 and Moathouse snapshots indicate. ;)
(This map, as well as the Moathouse and Nulb map, were actually done in order to assist someone else who was going through the Temple of Elemental Evil.)
This is actually my first foray into the realm of City Designer 2. Instead of following the map, I used my own judgement with the placement of buildings, as well as adding some additional businesses the party may be interested in shopping at. Due to the fact that my own Temple of Elemental Evil campaign is set within the Forgotten Realms (in the Mistledale area), that's why I have the "Mistledale Militia" as well as an "Aurora's Whole Realms Outlet" listed. (No, this is not a spur on those who prefer Greyhawk; everyone has their own preferences as far as what campaign world to play in. For those interested, Cyric replaces Iuz, Oghma replaces St. Cuthbert, and Lolth is, of course, Lloth. ;)
