Jamie, Jill and Steph have earned the highest award one can
earn as a Cadette Girl Scout - the Silver Award. They have worked hard on this
and we are so proud of them. So has Gayle, Silver Award Advisor. Congratulations
to all of you!
To earn this Silver Award, a Cadette Girl Scout must complete
five requirements:
Earn three interest project patches related to the project
that will be done for the Silver Award.
Earn the From Dreams to Reality Patch or complete five
career activities.
Earn the Cadette Girl Scout Leadership Award or Leadership
Interest Project patch.
Earn the Cadette Girl Scout Challenge.
Design and carry out a Girl Scout Silver Award project.
For their project, Jamie, Jill and Steph completed “Operation
Ladysmith.” The town of Ladysmith, Wisconsin, was devastated by a tornado last
fall and residents are still struggling to recover. Jamie, Jill and Steph
decided to help replenish their Food Shelf. After setting up a River Falls-wide
effort with schools, churches and organizations, their collection boxes netted
over 3,000 pounds of food. They delivered the food in February. Also included
were hand-made fleece mittens. This was a huge project! Great articles and
pictures appeared in the River Falls Journal March 6, 2003 edition and the
Ladysmith News March 2, 2003.
Jamie, Jill and Stephanie will receive their Silver Awards at
the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley ceremony in St. Paul, Tuesday, May
13, 2003.
Bridging to Senior Girl Scouts:
Our Troop can bridge to Senior Girl Scouts at any time now.
We will plan how/when where to do this tonight.
Gold Award:
Anyone thinking about ``going for the gold”? GSCSCV is
putting on a Gold Award Workshop on Saturday, June 14 from 6-8 pm at the In-Town
Program Center in St. Paul. The cost is $3. Contact Rachel for Program
Registration forms. A Girl Scout does not have to have completed the
Silver Award to do the Gold Award.
Garage Sale:
The River Falls Service Unit is putting on a Spring Garage
Sale. These sales have been very popular and a good fund raising event for
troops. The sale is Saturday, April 26th from 9 am until 2 pm at the Armory.
Set-up is Friday evening from 4-8 pm. At tonight`s meeting we`ll discuss
participation and, if we decide to have a table, seek Saturday volunteers.
Summer Camps:
Everyone should have received their camp booklets by now. We
are excited to hear that Jamie was accepted in a Wider Op this summer! She will
be going on a two-week canoe trip in Pennsylvania July 10 through the 23rd. Many
girls apply for these Wider Ops and only a few are chosen. Way to go, Jamie!
Cookie Sales:
Troop 1577 earned $343.00 this year on cookie sales. Good
job! Thank you to everyone who sold cookies and worked the booth sales at
EconoFoods. Also, thank you to experienced Cookie Manager, Gayle. We still have
a few boxes left, so bring your spending money to meetings ‘
The Bondagers:
Troop members attended the play, “The Bondagers” at UWRF
in March. Reviews were mixed but it was a fun evening.
Summer Trip:
Will we be able to find a time to get together for a few days
this summer? Or fall?
Finances:
With the addition of Cookie sale money, our account shows a
balance of $1,188.
