Notes: 100-word drabble, based on an idea I found on a LotR fanfic site (LJ icon-based drabble). The icon can be found here*, and was made by Giruff*.
Summary: Jareth, in the ballroom, with a young girl's romantic fantasy.

It wasn't real, of course. The goblin kingdom hadn't hosted a masque in centuries. Yet there he was, watching the latest challenger to his mazed realm flit around the ballroom floor.

She'd clothed herself in gossamer and silk, ribbons in her hair, and the blush of youth upon her cheek. He smirked behind his mask, two-toned eyes gleaming mischievously.

And then they were the couple everyone watched - child beauty and ageless king. He sang to her, weaving dreamscapes of a love that would never be, a heart forever in yearning.

He would never love her, but she needn't know that.
