This paper has discussed the pros and cons of Internet voting. Currently the greatest obstacles to larger scale implementation of Internet voting are security issues, such as voter identification, hacking and ballot secrecy. Furthermore, I have argued that Internet voting is not the miracle cure to all that is wrong with modern democracies. In fact, its potential positive effects on democracy depend on where and why it is introduced. I have looked at three different settings for Internet voting. In the EU student Vote Project Internet voting will help to create democracy where there formerly was none. This project is interesting because it is aimed at addressing the democratic deficit in the EU. In the United States Internet voting will help to legitimize the election process and make voting procedures more uniform. In Sweden, Internet voting will not really change anything if it is introduced in national elections. Sweden would have to address the design of its political processes in order to create more opportunities for citizens to participate
