Chapter Two

"Day-meaaaaaaaa .. Merrrrrrcyyyyyyyyy … Mercyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!" I heard the voice calling my name from down inside the cavern.

I heard the breath ruggedly escape my lips as I started to shake. I couldn't go deeper into the blackness. The soggy air was all around me, sliming over me. The blackness to go back seemed as limitless as the darkness if I plummeted forward.

"Why do I never remember how this dream ends," I wondered out loud fully aware I was still living the dream out to the end.

I could sort of recognize the voice. Deep, soothing, and with a twang of accent, just a little though. Somehow I knew the dream would end terribly. The way the voice echoed my name, it knew my true name.

"No," I breathed, "No .. no,"

"Mercy!" The loud noise burst into my ear and I jolted awake out of my four-hour sleep.

"No," I still whispered coming out of my coma daze.

I blinked trying to adjust to the new sunlight coming through the windows of the suburban.

"Hey, Mercy, wake up," I focused my eyes on the direction of the voice.

"Hey, Matt," I smiled looking up at my delicious boyfriend who was bent over me leaning inside the truck.

"You sleep like a rock, I swear, I thought Jay had hit a bump and put you in a coma or something,"

"Right," I replied with sarcasm, sitting up with much effort, "Did we make Saint Paul this quick, damn, and how'd you get here?"

Matt smirked, "I let Jeff drive,"

"Did Jay and Adam call you or what, I mean, it's big city?" I asked rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and trying to effectively wake myself into reality.

"Yeah. I guess while you were in hibernation," he paused sitting down next to me, "So, you want to go to work with me?"

"Hmm, depends,"

"Depends on?"

"If we're going straight to work or not?"

"You're so evil," Matt replied leaning over and nudging me back down onto the seat burying his face in neck, "Finally, some time alone, six to eight hours away from you is just too long,"

"No kidding. You act like Mr. Peepers off SNL,"

"Girl, don't make me get freaky,"

"Shut your face and kiss me, smart ass," I replied sliding my arms around him as best I could.

"Ehem!" I heard Jay from outside the car subtly objecting to Matt's method's of waking me up.

Matt sat up equal parts ticked from being disturbed and at being caught having "quality time" with me. I allowed my smile to still shine through. Nothing made me happier than Matt in my arms and his lips to mine.

"Sorry, we were just, uhm, regrouping our chi's for later," I explained to Jay, who gave me a brotherly look of doubt and dismay, before motioning us both out of the car,

"Way to make me feel like a child again," I muttered following Matt out of the suburban, "Ass,"

This was one of the few times I treated Jay like shit and he treated me like an infantile little smurfette. Otherwise, we got along like mature adults, but when it came to him being overprotective of his baby sister and well, me, not liking it - things got ugly!

"I already unpacked you slept through that too I guess," Jay informed me chaperoning Matt and I to the entrance stairs of the outdoor modeled Motel 6.

"Your point? Why don't you just put me in the top bunk while you're at it!" I snapped aiming to make him feel the full wrath of my protest.

"What's your problem? Did I catch you at a 'bad time'?"

"Bitch!" I growled turning to him and giving him a hard push that landed him flat on his back.

"Down girl down," Matt tried to intervene by taking my shoulders and moving himself in between Jay and I.

"Unless you are going to cease your shit, stay out of my way for the rest of the damn morning, noon and night!"

"What the hell did I do to you?" Jay asked genuinely confused.

"Treat me like I'm 25 Jay. Treat me like I'm 25!" I replied stalking away, not knowing where I was going.

Matt followed after me quickly adjusting to my pace.

"You have no clue where you are going do you?" he asked daring to smirk after my display of cruel anger.

"Not a clue," I said with a grin looking at him for some help and direction as not to show Jay my blind rage had led to retardation.

"Just follow me. He won't notice that you are clue less I'm sure,"

"I feel like an idget for doing that in front of you,"

"Don't worry about it," Matt reassured me, "After all, I travel the roads with Jeff Hardy, "bat out of hell" and winner of the" No Tact Award" 2 years running,"

"Geez, you wouldn't think with all the poems he writes. Is he that bad with words?"

"He's too good with them. He knows which ones to use as to baffle the hell out of me or bring my arguments down in a big crash,"

"I'm glad you understand this sibling shit. He's really getting on my nerves,"

"Yah, well, if you were my sister .. " Matt trailed off.

"If I were your sister, I don't think we'd be invited back to any family holidays or reunions," I finished, "and it'd be illegal in thirty states,"

I followed Matt up the stairs and into what must have been him and Jeff's room for the night.

I saw the bed and practically pounced on it. I needed to rest myself and I was near shaky over screaming at Jay. Matt took his time and sat down beside me where I lay.

"You okay?" he asked stroking the side of my cheek with his fingertips.

"I guess. It's a long explanation of weird girl feelings. I'll save it to tell to Stacy or someone,"

"Tell me?"

"Don't zone out okay," I half jokingly asked Matt to which he nodded his agreement.

"I don’t necessarily like yelling at Jay. It's just I can sort of see why he's being like this to me and you. He's protecting me, its cool and I'm glad I have a good brother like him, but I feel so small and dumb when he does it,"

"Do you think everyone else sees it that way when he does and says stuff?"

"I guess, yah, I mean, I don't want to look like a kid or anything. It's bad enough I'm the young'in around the federation as it is,"

"Well, I don't think of you like a youngin or small and dumb, when he's like that. Just kinda says what an important, irreplaceable treasure of a girl you are,"

"Aw, don’t say nice stuff to me right now. I'm all vulnerable and might cry or something,"

"We couldn't have that now could we?" Matt joked, dropping himself all the way onto the bed so he was lying next to me, "Let's nap. Don't forget, YOU kept ME awake too last night,"

I reached for his hand and gave it a quick peck before snuggling closer to him with my hand still gripping his.

"G'nite er G'noon, Mercy," he whispered.

"You too, Matty,"

I closed me eyes and somehow managed to suppress the joy and excitement of being next to Matt again and fell asleep.
