It felt like maybe a second or less since I had dozed off, before I woke up again, groggily. Matt managed to nudge me out of my stupor. I glanced over at him and then looked around only to notice my brother, Adam and Jeff were all with us in the room.
"Oh, crap, I'm not late to somewhere am I?" I asked noticing the rather unhappy glares on Jeff, Jay and Adam's faces.
"Not yet," Adam replied cooly to which Jeff shot him a look.
"As it turns out, I gotta go pick up Melanie from the Super 8 down the street on the way to the arena," Jeff informed me.
I sat up and took a huge sigh of a deep breath before standing up from the bed.
"Great, then let's go,"
I was eager to see my good friend Melanie. She had been with the WWF just a few months longer than I had, and it helped that she took up a substantial amount of Jeff's time that would have been spent parenting Matt and me. I usually poured out all my thoughts to her, about Jay being a butt or Matt being an angel. If she wasn't around then I usually would dump all the baggage onto Stacy, better known as, The Kat. We were all three very good friends.
"You coming with us?" Matt asked me as we walked down the outdoor steps of the Motel 6.
"I should be. I mean, that is if Jay signs my permission slip," I joked half heartily.
"Screw that. Just get in the car with me," Matt smirked getting rebellious all of a sudden.
At the bottom of the steps I took hold of his arm and dainty rested myself against him as we walked to his and Jeff's vehicle.
"Mercy, you coming with us?" Jay called to Matt and I who had somehow gotten farther ahead of the rest.
"No, I'm going to go with Matt and Jeff to get Melanie first. I'll see you there,"
Jay's face sort of dropped. I rolled my eyes to myself realizing I couldn't guilt trip myself or let myself be guilt tripped over something this simple. I knew Jay liked keeping a watchful eye and all of that good stuff, but I had my overly buff boyfriend to protect me. Then again, to Jay, I probably need protecting from Matt too.
"I'll see you there Jay," I called to reassure him in this fragile time of his that he would get over in a few minutes, "Just practice looking in pain from me hitting you with a chair until I arrive,"
He smirked at that concept.
"Alright, well, don't be too long. We're sort of late as it is, and whichever one of you is driving, be careful,"
I thought it was rather sweet of Jay to get all, communicative, towards vehicle safety and things like that. I mean, no doubt my brother was a sweet guy, but growing up he wasn't this fastidious.
"Yah, I'll be a good boy!" Jeff replied to Jay, "I'll brake for old lady's or whatever. You know me!"
"Exactly," Adam broke in after keeping his silence long enough.
I thought this was rather funny, because Adam was implying Jeff couldn't drive. When Jay and I had banned Adam, himself, from ever driving the suburban with other humans inside.
I slowed Matt down to a stop to wait for Jay to catch up to us standing in the parking lot.
"Well, you be careful too," I warned Jay as he reached us.
He gave me a half-hug, which I returned to the tune of quick brother/sister I-love-you's. Still he couldn’t break that tradition either. Adam gave me a wave and Jeff blew past all of us on the way to the car.
"Behave," Jay told Matt turning away before Matt could object or respond.
"Let's go. Duty calls," I reminded and led the walk to the vehicle we could presently hear Jeff starting up.
Jeff, had the drivers seat all to him, and was quite pleased that he finally had the wheel for once. Matt and I got into the far back of the Land Rover and started play-kicking each other.
"Hey did you two hear about the angle yet?" Jeff called back to us.
"I heard about mine. I have to say, I want to go into hiding before tonight!" I replied giving Matt a good whack in the ankle.
"Ow," Matt exaggerated a yelp, "Why? What's your angle tonight?"
"Funny you should mention angle a zillion times. I'm turning on Jay and Adam to get with Kurt Angle!"
"No way?!?" both brothers asked in unison, shocked.
"Yup,"
"When'd you hear this?" Matt asked suddenly seeming very unhappy.
"When I got up this morning, Adam called in to see what was on for tonight,"
"Who'd he get on the phone?"
"Uhm, Vince I guess. I dunno. It was early,"
"Do you think he's bullshitting just to get on your nerves?"
"Why would he do that? We never joke about business," I returned, "Are you upset about this or something,"
"No," Matt replied quickly before turning his gaze to the window and beyond.
"You are aren't you?" he just continued to stare out the window, "It's not a for real thing. I mean, I know it looked like we'd get together as a story line, but maybe it's still going to happen in the future. Adam even said it was a test thing and demographics would tell,"
Matt still kept silent. I couldn't believe he was acting this way over a stupid script assignment.
"Jeff what's his problem?"
"Way to act like he's not sitting next you while you ask me!" Jeff retorted.
I realized he would be of no help here.
"Matt," I pleaded for some sign of life, and left my seat to try and turn him towards me.
I got pretty much on top of his whole right side and was turning his head very forcefully to look at me. Finally the tension let up between my pull on his face and his tug against my grip and he looked at me.
"Sorry," he whispered.
"It's okay," I whispered back, "I don't understand you, but it's still okay,"
He leaned in to give me a "make up" kiss and all was well.
"I was rather pissed off too, you know. I mean, that guy makes me want to hurl up everything from as far back as last Tuesday,"
There was a slight giggle heard from Jeff on that account and Matt was self-consciously trying to hide a smile.
I removed myself from the pasted position in held on him and stuck myself back into my corner seat.
"Maybe if I talk to Vince he'll let you out of it,"
"I don't really want to press the issue. I kind of like my job. Usually people who bitch end up in WCW, you know what I mean,"
"That's not true," Jeff added parking in the Super 8 lot.
"Yeah, me and Jeff complained all the time about Terri and they let us out of that one,"
"That kind of seems different and yet you two still had to play out the angle for a while,"
"Oh well," Jeff answered nonchalant, "I'm going to go find Melanie. You two behave. I don't want to come back to find this thing rocking!"
"Yeah, no problem, besides, it wouldn't be rocking Jeff, it would be hopping to the beat,"
"That is so stupid Matt. I swear you make no sense," Jeff laughed and got out of the car.
"I hate when he does that. I mean, we all know I'm not the brightest and he still picks on me,"
"Aww, poor baby,"
"Hey, go grab the car phone would you? I'm going to call and try to get this angle crap straightened out,"
I got up and flipped over one of the seats and leaned over shotgun to grab the phone. With my luck it was rather jammed in the charging device and I had to beat up on it a little to get it free. Matt enjoyed the humor in me practically wrestling the phone for control and I humored him by taking a little longer than needed with the confounded contraption.
Finally, back to my corner spot, I tossed him the phone. He opened the door of the vehicle and stepped out.
"Man business, you don't want to see me get all brutal do you?"
"YES YES!!!"
"Uhm, okay, that's what I figured and since I'm going to wuss out and beg, whine, and cry like an eight year old. I wanted to preserve my dignity,"
"Hey, how come you never beg whine and cry to me?"
"You're perfect. I never have to beg you to change," he smiled all sexy like and shut the door.
I knew I was beaming ear to ear. It was those kind of complements that made some of the not so witty ones vanish from my memory bank. I could hear him talking and mumbling and "mm hmm"-ing outside. I sat back and lounged in my seat thinking how great it was that he actually took up time trying to get me out of an angle. Jay and Adam didn't even offer to do that for me and Jay was always concerned with my, his little sister's, honor.
After only a short time the door opened and Matt got back inside. He had a pleasant look on his face.
"What's the verdict?" I asked.
Matt just smiled.
"You'll see,"
"Oh no, what the hell did you get me into?"
"Nothing bad. Trust me, the time of your life!" he grinned a little more, "Whatever happens, just remember, it was all my doing,"
"Not to doubt your wonderfulness, because you know I think you are wonderful, but "oh shit," is all I have to say at this time,"
Matt laughed at that one.
"You'll see, you'll see. When we get there and you hear my ingenious idea, you'll be all over me 'Ohhh Matt thank you. Oh Matt I love you. Matt you’re the greatest man to ever walk the planet and keep me awake obscene amounts of time at night!' I can't wait!"
"Now I'm getting scared, besides when haven't I said all that to you at least once a day,"
"True true," He slid over closer to me on the seat, "So um, what do you say we not behave,"
"Sounds good to me," I snickered moving towards him.
