THE HISTORY OF KENTUCKY WRESTLING FEDERATION

The Kentucky Wrestling Federation began it's creation as far back as early as 1992. Starting it's roots in Radcliff, Kentucky, a young wrestling fanatic by the name of Phillip Brown started to wrestle in his basement and backyard with friends for fun. Countless weekends, him and his close friends would gather and make a day of wrestling trying their best to hide it from their parents who disapproved of what their children were doing. It became a on and off thing, wrestling when they could and just enjoy each other company. However, that company wouldn't last long.

In 1995, Friends of his were moving off to other places because their family would have to relocate for various reasons, and so did Phillip, leaving behind the fun that the Brown household had within. One of those friends, Michael Stalcup would remain in Radcliff and would be without wrestling for over a year.

After a year out of action and without his close friends, Michael would took to liberty to try and recreate the fun Phillip made for him, thus around the end of 1996, Michael gather as many of his friends together to try and ressurect wrestling. This was the beginning of the Kentucky Wrestling Federation.

Michael took upon himself to book and try to manage shows in his neighborhood, wresting in different locations either be in the woods, his friends backyard, or in his place. The Kentucky Wrestling Federation kicked off. Championships were created and gimmicks would be made, as Michael and his friends gather creating themselves. As the public around him noticed either be at these events, by friends, or in school, others would be interested and attempt to jump in and try it out.

In this time, KWF would go into wrestling from on Trampolines, on Mattresses, or down to wrestling on a tarp draped over the ground. kids and Teens were getting into the action, even without their parents consent. They just wanted to have some fun. KWF would gather those together, create friendships, and give everyone something new and challenging to do.

In Early 2000, KWF kicked off bigger then ever when it was launched for the first time on the world wide web here on this very web site. Hosting event results, bios, and even pictures, showcasing the federation outside of the neighborhood. Later in the year, KWF got it's big break and was able to produce and record it's events on VHS to trade off to other to get the name out there. With these breakthroughs, KWF grew more and more as teens would find info on KWF and would contact about joining. By the end of 2000, KWF was at it's peak.

KWF had some close calls in 2001 and 2002 as friends would fight and argue over events that would unfold at the KWF Arena. Even in these harsh times, KWF would try and keep strong, even trying to recreate itself by trying new things, even a face lift or two (KCWF & NOW). The spirit of KWF was still there and it continued as long as it could. However, on August 25, 2002....Radcliff, Kentucky would see it's last show, after several hardships from friends, to wrestlers losing interest, Michael announced the retirement of KWF.

Even after KWF's demise, it would spawn other backyard federations in Hardin County from it's former wrestlers and friends, ranging from feds like MPWA (Mid-eastern Wrestling Alliance) to CKWA (Central Kentucky Wrestling Alliance) to even AOW (All-Out Wrestling). KWF may be dead, but it's legacy lives on....
