This page is for Joey Lauzon. Joey died on Saturday March 2nd, 2002 in a car crash. Two young men, one 20, the other 16, were killed and a third seriously injured when a small pickup truck smashed into a utility pole on Windsor's east side. Christopher Cleroux, 20 and Joseph Lauzon, 16, were pronounced dead early Sunday morning. Police said the red GMC pickup was westbound on Tecumseh Road at 2:45 a.m. Sunday when it slammed into a pole at Rossini Boulevard. Several ambulances, fire trucks and police vehicles converged on the scene. Witnesses said two bodies were left covered at the scene while rescuers worked feverishly to free the injured driver. Lori Dunford, 19, who said she is a cousin of Cleroux, was at the scene at daybreak Sunday. She said the three occupants of the vehicle were all good friends, describing them as responsible persons behind the wheel. "We grew up together," she said. "I knew the driver too. They did not deserve this at all. "Of course everyone's upset. He was very well loved, a very sweet kid. He had his life together totally. He's a great person," she said of her cousin, a Brennan High School graduate who worked for a city DaimlerChrysler car dealership. She painted a picture of a responsible young man with a steady job and girlfriend, who enjoyed cars and motorcycles as a hobby. "He's not the type to go out and be irresponsible," Dunford said. Dunford and friends Rachel Gallant and Steven Kiesler went to the accident scene Sunday morning and with lipstick she left a poignant farewell message on the pole. "We love you Joey forever," it read. Members of Lauzon's family were too distraught to speak with the media on Sunday. Drew Munro and his wife Mary, who live on Tecumseh Road only yards away from the accident scene, were awakened by the sounds of emergency vehicles. "It was an ugly scene," Munro said. "That pole was halfway in the console of the dashboard." He said he figured the truck belonged to a young person because it had "nice" rims and ground effects. Police were on the scene for several hours and were still investigating late Sunday afternoon. They did not release the name of the injured occupant of the vehicle.
Funeral arrangements for Cleroux and Lauzon are completed.
"The funeral was beautiful."
