I am an Army Reserve recruiter's wife, we are Rich and Deb, and we have two sons, Joe age 16 and Jonathan(or Jon)age 12. We have two dogs (we are getting some stock in Gravy Train!) and two cockatiels named Dexter and Daisy. We live in a "holler", and life is peaceful here in WV. We are originally from CT, insurance capitol of the U.S., and I have relatives all over New England. When we moved to Huntington, WV, nine years ago, we did not know anything about WV. We felt like we had moved to a different country, or landed in the Twilight Zone........the accents were different (like we don't have an accent!), the food is different (I have rounded-out my figure here, but I still miss the Greek pizzas and Angel Wing cookies), and the ways are different. People seem to be more family-oriented and ready to help you if you need it, and life is much simpler. When we moved to our first home nine years ago, I remember going to a grocery store at night on the way home, and men dressed in hunting gear were talking about some big bear that was spotted down the road! Needless to say, I split that "popsicle stand". I looked out my back window on some mornings and early evenings, and across the creek, deer could be seen grazing the farmer's field. Deer are all over here in WV. I really don't want them shot, but I guess that is what helps to keep the population down.....I love the deer, bear, raccoons, wild turkeys, etc. Also, I have learned what a "mess of beans" is! When I first came here, my babysitter, a country woman who used to live in a home in the hills, asked me why I had never heard of stringing beans or a mess of beans. She asked me, "now Debbie, how did you fix yer beans in CT anyways?"...and I replied, "with a can opener!" We are still learning every day, and we are staying here, and I guess we fit in now. We are still asked "where are you from anyway?". Oh well, the scenery is here......wish you were beautiful!!! Hee! Hee! That is a little bit about who maintains this site. A lot of love is going into my homepage, so .....sit back, relax, get some coffee....or a mess of beans or pinto beans and cornbread, and enjoy!
