THOUGHTS OF GRANDPA

When I was born you carried me,
When dad was off to war,
You showed me off to everyone,
You took me to the store.
The proud grandpa you've always been,
The greatest of all dads,
You've had alot of struggles,
You're not one to get mad.
You've lived life to the fullest,
The family loves you so,
You've just about done everything,
Your stories tell it so.
You've told of how you rode the train,
And what your job was then,
You helped to build so many roads,
I can't remember all of them.
Your pride and joy was Grandma,
You had a wonderful life,
You inherited two children,
The day she became your wife.
You decided two was not enough,
And so you made it four,
You have a heart of gold,
You would of taken more.
I see you laugh and watch you walk,
And then I realize,
How fortunate our family,
To have someone so wise.
I know you grieve for Grandma,
But within your heart and mind,
She holds the key to unlock the door,
For eternity and time.
Before you go to bed at night,
You say a prayer or two,
And I know God is listening,
Especially to you.
A man that would give you all he had,
And ask nothing in return,
His greatest gift is just to see,
His family at his home.
So as he sits and tells his tales,
Of the many days back when,
Take time to sit and listen,
He will always be your friend.
In times of need he was there for you,
Now you must be for him,
For tomorrow is not promised,
For me or you or him.
I will always show my deep respect,
I will always show my love,
I will always call him grandpa,
For so says God above.
Although he cannot carry me,
As he did when I was born,
He carries my love and gratitude,
For grandpa--you are loved.

I dedicated this to my Grandpa Mitchell
