THANKS TO THE VETERANS

Let's show respect and admiration
For the living and the dead
That went to war and fought for us
So that we could sleep in bed.
For the ones that gave up families
For the ones that gave up life
For the ones who fought for freedom
Each and every night.
For the ones that watched their buddies die
And wondered if they were next
For the ones that never gave up
For the ones that didn't rest.
For the man that didn't want to fight
But knew what he should do
For the man that never shot a gun
But shot it for me and you.
For the man that walked alone at night
And listened to the bombs
For the man that prayed to God each night
To live to make it home.
This man did what he had to do
He didn't run away
He paid the price for freedom
So many different ways.
While we were home in bed at night
And safe within our home
Somewhere this man was walking
Through mud and rain or storm.
The sky would light up and turn red
The smoke would hurt your eyes
The sound of tanks and aircraft
The chill of dying cries.
The fear of every step he'd take
Might be the final one
The thoughts of mines and foxholes
Or someone with a gun.
Sleep was something of the past
A word that he once knew
Home was but a memory
Of folks like me and you.
But proud to serve this Country
And do his very best
He didn't dodge the draft
Or burn the Flag in protest.
So before you shout obsceneties
Or try to burn our Flag
You'd better get down on your knees
And pray to God instead.
You'd better say a prayer at night
And thank God for the man
That fought for you and gave his life
To make this a Free Land.
For without the men and women
That fought and gave their life
You wouldn't have an opinion
You wouldn't have your life.
I'm proud to be an American
I'm proud of where I live
For there is no greater Country
Than this one in which we live.
So if you aren't patriotic
And you need to burn a Flag
Just pack that freedom that you had
And go elsewhere instead.
