TWO ROSES

She was his only pride and joy
The apple of his eye
He treated her with dignity
Until the day she died.
They had the kind of marriage
That many never know
They lived their lives as one
They made eachother whole.
They wanted not for riches
Or a mansion on a hill
They needed not material things
Their love made them fulfilled.
For once a week he brought her
Two pink roses fresh and new
They remind me of the day
That I fell in love with you.
You only asked for roses
Just two--not anymore
And she would put them in a vase
On a table by the door.
We once were like the roses
Starting all anew
He gave to her two roses
On the day they said "I Do".
They bring back precious memories
Of the many times before
When she would see me coming
With pink roses through the door.
But that was more than 60 years
Our hair now white as snow
She closed her eyes and went to sleep
I had to let her go.
But I will bring her roses
Until my dying day
For they signify the love we had
It can never fade away.
