Demeter is a yellow and black queen with a special connection to Macavity: when she was a kitten she was kidnapped by the Hidden Paw. Ever since she has been a little paranoid, and is always the first to yell, "Macavity!" when he is about. She is almost always with her best friend Bombalurina, who has some unknown connection with Macavity.

Demeter, Bombalurina, and Jellylorum help Munkustrap sing about Jennyanydots the Gumbie Cat during the Jellicle Ball. When Grizabella shows up, Bombalurina and Demeter sing about the faded glamour cat and her life. After Macavity and his henchrats kidnap Old Deuteronomy, Demeter and Bombalurina tell the younger cats and kittens about Macavity and his famous deeds. The toms show back up, and so does Macavity - with Old Deuteronomy. The Jellicles cuddle up around their returned leader, but Demeter senses that something isn't right. She jumps on Old Deuteronomy, revealing Macavity! He tries to kidnap Demeter again, but Alonzo carries her away and Macavity and Munkustrap fight. Munkustrap is wounded, and the entire Jellicle Tribe rises up against Macavity. Faced with no other option, Macavity makes the junkyard plunge into darkness and disappears. A small spotlight slowly makes its way around the junkyard, finally revealing Demeter and Munkustrap (or Alonzo, depending on the production) nuzzling each other.
