Chapter Five

"Fine, Howie!"

Kevin's head came up at the shout and he stared into the recording room of the studio they were in. He watched through the glass as AJ threw his hands in the air and stalked away from Howie who had a pleased look on his face.

AJ walked out of the recording room and walked past Kevin where he was sitting in a chair by the mixing board, and plopped down on the couch against the opposite wall.

"Problem?" Kevin asked, amused at AJ's obvious distress.

AJ looked up at Kevin above the rim of his sunglasses and said "Howie has been trying to get me to go on a blind date with one of Laura's friends for days. He won't take no for an answer. I had to give in."

Kevin laughed and turned his chair to face AJ fully. "Who is it he wants you to go with? Drama queen Denise or Insecure Mendy?" He laughed again as he waited for AJ's answer.

"I don't know." AJ groaned. "I think he said her name is Drew."

Kevin's smile dissapeared and he felt as if he'd been punched in the stomach. "D-Drew?" he stumbled.

"Yeah." AJ sighed, unaware of Kevin's distress. He sighed again and rose from the couch. "I guess I'd better go get ready. He's sceduled this thing for tonight." He then left, looking completely miserable at the prospect of a blind date.

Kevin watched him leave with his jaw clenched. He heard the door to the recording room open and turned to see Howie coming through it. In his mind, Kevin saw Olivia and her annoying chatter and in the next instance he saw Drew. He saw her as she danced with him and then as surely as if she were there with him, he felt her lips on his. This thought was quickly intruded in on by another, not so pleasant. He saw Drew again but this time she was in AJ's arms, kissing AJ.

As soon as Howie walked through the door, he found himself pinned up against the wall, with Kevin holding a fistfull of his shirt.

"What the-- Dammit, Kevin, what have I done, now??"

"You set AJ up on a blind date." Kevin growled.

"So? I sat you up on a blind date too. Only this time I did it right. What's the problem?"

"I-" Kevin began but cut himself off. What was he going to say to him. That he saw Drew first and wanted her for himself. That wouldn't be the wise thing to say considering he was still tangled up with Olivia and if AJ and Drew did start dating, he wouldn't want to hurt AJ. "Nevermind." he mumbled and released Howie.

As soon as Howie's feet touched the ground he was backing away from Kevin, smoothing his shirtfront. He shot Kevin a look that told him that he has definately gone crazy. Kevin ignored him and snatched his car keys from the small table in front of the couch and stalked out of the studio.

******************************

When Kevin finally reached his house, he had gone from being on an angry rampage to being in a small depression. As he threw himself down on his sofa in the living room, he sighed, thinking of Drew.

From the first moment he saw her, he had wanted her. She was some sort of dark angel sent to him in the midst of his hellish date with Olivia. He hadn't stopped thinking about her since he first laid eyes on her. And now, after he finally found the woman who made him forget any other woman on earth existed, AJ was going to get her.

He had no doubt that they would hit it off after one date. They were very much alike. Kevin would never get the chance with her. She was as good as AJ's.

It was time's like this when he needed someone to talk to. He sat up on the couch and reached for the phone. He was half way finished dialing the number when his hands froze. He stared at the phone for just a moment and put it back on the hook.

He had been dialing Genna's number. He sighed as he laid back down on the couch. Three months. That's how long it's been since he's seen or heard from her. And he still picks up the phone and dials her number out of habit.

He wondered for the hundredth time, what she was doing now. And what caused her to walk out of his life without a word of goodbye. She even moved out of her house when she left him. He also wondered for the hundredth time if he was ever going to get answers to his questions.

He sighed again and turned over and flipped on the TV. He first watched the local news to find out what was going on all over Orlando but that didn't hold his attention for long. He found an old western on the tube and settled down to watch it.

The movie was only half over before he fell asleep on the couch.
