Welcome to the P Files. Here we'll investigate all of the unsolved mysteries,
oddities, and rumors of anything Pokémon. The reason I set up this section
is to kill all those stupid Poké God rumors and such before I got too many
emails asking about them. So, without any further discussion, we open up...
Rumors
Ahhh, the infamous Poké Gods. Man, how I hate these rumors. For anyone
who hasn't heard about the Poké Gods (both of you) they are supposedly
the Pokémon with numbers higher than 151. These include Pikablu (actually
Marichu), Togepi, Buru, Houou, and a whole lot of others. Now, before I'm flooded
with emails asking how to get them, let me say this: THEY DO NOT EXIST!
Yes, I know that there are some Game Shark codes for them but they are just
Missingno with a different number. Heck, you even have to change the name
of the Pokémon to match it with the name of the "Poké God" you wanted! So,
DO NOT ASK ME HOW TO GET THEM!!
Well, the rumor is that you can somehow get around the SS Anne and find
a truck, and if you move the truck you can get Mew (some versions say
Togepi). It sounds likely, doesn't it? Well, this has been proven
false. You can NOT get Mew by moving a truck, so DON'T ASK.
You can't. I have no idea why Nintendo made it look like you could, but
you can't. There's nothing back there but cliffside, anyway.
Can't. It's just there for decoration.
UPDATE: The PKMN Master says that it is possible to get to the grass using a Game Shark, but you can only take a couple steps before the game locks up. But at least it proves that this does NOT lead to Mew or the Pokégods or anything.
Sent in by Dewgong
Well, there is a rumor where you can get a Hohou by talking to the girl in Celadon who wants a drink of water a 100 times! That is fake. I know
someone who tried it, and they got nothing.
Apparently, if you go into the Celadon City Game Corner with a level 100 Chansey on your team,
you'll have much better luck at the slots. Well... ok, that one COULD be true... it does have
a good basis. But still... I don't buy it.
Mystery Pics
What is this all about? "The BLUE"?! I think this is a pic from early
on in the game's production. Back then all trainers were referred to as
"the", such as "The ROCKET wants to fight!" But of course you'd get something
like "The BROCK" or "The MISTY", and since that doesn't make sense they just
took out the "The". There's a few pics like this in the manual. Any screen
shots that say something like this are really old.
Here's a pic of the Map from the Japanese version. Notice the border around the screen. It's not like that in the US version. Water's different too. I have no idea why they changed this. No big deal, though.
Two pics from Pokémon Snap... but look closely at them. Notice anything odd? Check out that first pic. It shows what looks like the Album, but it's weird looking. Also, check out the environment Pikachu is in. It's some kind of field with big trees everywhere. This is a cool environment, but what happened to it. Gone? In the second pic, we have Bulbasaur in what appears to be the River level, but look at the border around the screen. Strange... in the final version it just puts a black band around the screen when you zoom in. Also check out the "shots remaining" counter. It's different looking. Must be old pictures. Removed level, maybe?
Unsolved Mysteries
In Fucshia City there is a guy named Eric who says, "Where's Sara? I told
here to meet me right here!" Where's Sara, you ask? She's in the Safari
Zone, looking for Eric! This is all very cute, but WHY THE HECK IS IT
IN THE GAME??? Is there a way to get Eric and Sara together? Maybe... maybe
not.
My, what a useful move! It does absolutely nothing!! Then why is it here?
Why would they waste bytes on this? Maybe it leads to something? How many
PPs does it have, about 40? Why on Earth does a useless move have so many
PPs?? No one knows for sure...
UPDATES: Well, I have got a ton of email on this one, and looking at it I've found at least two theories on this mystery...
1) Acid Drinker says that the reason Magikarp has Splash is because Nintendo wanted Magikarp to be TOTALLY useless. If it had started out with Tackle, it would have been too easy to level it up, so basically Nintendo wanted to make it hard for you to get Gyarados. Sounds pretty likely to me...
2) Too many people have mentioned this for me to give just one person credit; but if you sent this in, you know who you are. Thanks! Anyway, the other theory is that Splash has so many PPs because Nintendo didn't want people to use Splash over and over till they run out of PPs and can use Struggle to win a fight. I have no idea why anyone would actually want to do this, but it seems like a pretty good idea to me.
Of all the HM abilities, Flash is the least used - and the most mysterious.
I mean, why waste a whole HM on a move that's only used once? In battle, all
it does is decrease the enemy's accuracy. Yet your Pokémon can NEVER forget it.
What's this all about? Notice that "Flash" rhymes with "Splash"...
Now this one gets me thinking. This move cannot be taught by TM, and no Pokémon
learns it by gaining levels. The only way to see this move is to use Metronome
over and over till you get it. And like Flash, it's practically useless - all it
does is lower the enemy's Special, I think. Why is it in the game? Hmmm...
UPDATES: Justin says that this move was probably intended for a Psychic Pokémon, but was taken off at the last minute, forgotten, left unused, but for some strange reason not removed from the game. Sounds likely...
Derek says that he left a Kadabra at the Daycare center south of Cerulean, and when he picked it up later in the game, it had Kinesis as one of its moves. Hmmm... I have no idea why this would happen... anyone out there wanna try this? Maybe if you leave other Pokémon at the center, they'll learn special moves too?
Vaporeon says
that if you catch a wild Kadabra in the Yellow Version, it will sometimes have Kinesis as one of its moves. Haven't tried it yet though.
SOLVED! Well, I tried out that rumor, and guess what - it works. Just catch a Kadabra in the grass west of Lavender Town in the Yellow Version
and it'll have Kinesis. Just for the record, Kinesis is a Psychic-type attack with 15 PP that lowers the enemy's
accuracy, and its animation is like that of drill peck.
The PKMN Master says that when you use the Game Shark to get into the Pokémon habitats in Fuschia City, you can talk to the Pokémon, and all they say is "!" Strange... overall I'm placing my bets on it being another game glitch, but there is the possibility it could mean something.
UPDATES: Can't believe I didn't notice this until just now, but when you talk to your oppenent before you enter a link battle, he says the exact same thing.
I forgot who mentioned this; if you're reading this, you know who you are. Email me, and I'll give you credit! Anonymous mentions that in the Red version, one of the default names for the main character is ASH and one of the default names for the rival is GARY. But in the blue version, it's the other way around! Why on earth Nintendo did this I do not know. Maybe they got the names confused? :Ţ
UPDATES: The PKMN Master says that the blue version was named Gary and the red version was named Ash so that when you have a battle between the Blue and Red versions, one player could be the hero and the other could be his rival! Sounds cool to me.
Mistake/Mysteries/Weird Stuff from the TV Show
Here's a good mystery. Well, when the St. Anne sank, the windows didn't
burst. The pressure would've shattered the windows! That one always makes me
wonder.
Let me know!
