Pokémon Gold and Silver

Gold logo Silver logo

Pokémon Gold and Silver are the long-awaited sequels to the original Red and Blue Pokémon games. As you might expect, Gold and Silver take everything from Red and Blue and make it bigger and better! Don't know the difference between R/B and G/S? Well, here's some of the new stuff you can expect to see...

A Whole New World: Pokémon G/S takes place in an entirely new world, Johto, which is just west of Kanto, the world of Pokémon R/B. You'll find eight brand-new Gyms in Johto, as well as lots of new Pokémon. Of course, later in the game you'll get the chance to explore Kanto as well as Johto...

The PokéGear: This cool device contains your clock, map, cell phone and radio. The clock and the map are pretty much what they sound like. The cell phone lets you call various characters in the game and get info about rare Pokémon, items, events, and other things. The radio can tune into many different stations, some of which have info about Pokémon, people, and places, some of which hold contests, and some which just play music!

Internal Clock: Probably the coolest new feature in G/S, the cart actually has a clock built in that keeps track of real time. In other words, if it's nightime in real life, it'll be nightime in the game as well. This is important, because some Pokémon will only appear at certain times of day. There are even events in the game that only occur on certain days of the week - meaning if you miss your chance, you'll have to wait an entire week in real time to try again!

New Types and Attacks: Remember in Pokémon R/B how Psychic was the one seemingly unbeatable type? Well, in G/S there are all-new moves and types that even out the balance somewhat. There are TONS of new attacks in the game of all types (yep, now there are actually some GOOD Dragon type moves!), and some of the old attacks have different effects. Of course, there are new element types in the game as well - Steel, which is resistant to almost every type but weak against Fire, and Dark, which is actually IMMUNE to Psychic-type attacks!

NEW POKéMON!: Of course, the aspect of G/S that most people get excited about are the all-new Pokémon! There are 100 brand-new monsters over the original 150, with all new moves, types, and evolutions. Some of the new Pokémon are new evolutions of old Pokémon (e.g. Bellossom is a new evolution of Gloom), and a few are actually PRE-evolutions of classic Pokés! Of course, most of the new Pokémon in G/S are entirely new species, and just like in Red, Blue and Yellow, there will be some Pokémon that aren't avaliable in both versions, so you'll have to do some trading with other Gold, Silver, Red, Blue or Yellow games.
