Bio -Told by hero the bassist

In June of 1997, "Jesse and the Rockers" was born. Rocket and I Hero started the band. I was playing in another band at the time, called "The Drip". We were an alternative/emo band. I wanted to have a side band that was all about fun and punk rock. I originally played bass, but I played guitar when "The Rockers" formed. I wanted to do something different, so we began writing songs and playing everday. Just me and Rocket. We recorded a five-song demo, Then decided to find a bass player. We knew Larry, and asked him to play bass. He was stoked on the idea, so I gave him the tape, and told him to learn the songs. The next day we got together and played. Larry already knew all of the songs. We practiced every chance that we had, and in July, we did our first show. It was a blast. We just had fun. We began to take the band more seriously, and wrote more and more songs. I sent the demo out to 10 record labels, but didn't have any luck. After about two months I went back to bass, and Larry went to guitar. To us, we sounded a lot better this way. We also began treating the band as a ministry, and started praying a lot more than playing. We really started seeking God's will for the band. Rocket, and me, started back to college in September 1997, and we began talking to a friend of ours, Brian. Brian was in a band called Bliss, a secular band. We let him hear some of our songs we had recorded on a 4-track. Brian was not a Christian, he was years before, but he had slipped away from God. We talked to him a lot about becoming a Christian. In October, Brian and myself were hanging out with this other guy, and we were all talking about God. Brian was telling the guy a lot of stuff, but realized that he needed Jesus himself. That night, Rocket asked him if he wanted to get saved. Brian said yes, and he got saved that night. Brian's girlfriend broke up with him a couple of days later, and then his band broke up about the same time. We started a side ska band with him call "The Wedgeez". Brian said that if we ever wanted a second guitar player he would be interested. A couple of weeks later, we asked Brian to join "The Rockers". On Novermber 1st, Brian did his first show with us. He learned the songs the night before, and the first time we ever played as a 4 piece was at that show. We began writing new songs, such as "T.I.N.", the title of our first CD, and "Try". I knew right then that we had something really good. We started having shows at our church every Friday night, and many kids got saved. We really developed as friends, and as a band. In February of 1998, we recorded our album "T.I.N." We were going to put it out on the market ourselves. I sent out, somewhere near, 150 press kits to zines, labels and all kinds of people. We went on a 40 day prayer meeting in hopes of getting a record label. It was so awesome. God really moved in our lives. On the 37th day of the prayer meetings we received a call from Screaming Giant Records. They said they wanted to sign us "yesterday". We knew this was from God, so we signed, flew to California, and shot our first music video. We also hosted G-Rock. We started touring full time in June, and now, this is our full time job. God has blessed us with a van, a trailer, and new equipment. We have had the opportunity to minister to people all over the country. We give God all the credit for everthing we have done. Jesus is our main focus in our personal lives, as well as in our band, and in our music. We are now back to a 3 piece, Brian felt God calling him in other areas and we felt the same way. We are still touring and gearing up for our second album to be recorded in August. This is only the beginning for Jesse and the Rockers.
