Fall
2001 saw some improvements from the previous session as players
started to get to know each other and chemistry between teamates
started to form. The Bay Area's crazy economy tooks it's toll
yet again, this time with the departure of our coach/captain,
Roberto Santos. Not having a clue with what he was about to get
into, Jerry Geyer was asked to take the helm of the Lightning.
The Lightning finished the season with a respectible 4th place
finish. In
the first round of the playoffs, we beat out the Spiders to advance
to the 2nd round. There we took on the Icemen and skated to a
1-1 tie in regulation. We then went on to a shootout, which ended
with an extra goal for the other team eliminating us from the
quest for the cup.
At the end of this long and gruelling season there were rumors
among the team that some of our players were looking to exercise
the fact that they were "free agents", so they would
have better chances at reaching their quest for the cup. Instead
of risking the demise of the team, a plan was formulated to put
together two Lightning teams. Now there are Lighting teams in
both division E and EE at the Ice Centre.
