BIRMINGHAM'S BEST RETAILER FOR METAL AND HARDCORE
MORBID ANGEL
Morbid Angel was formed in 1984 by guitarist Trey Azagthoth in his home of Tampa, Florida because he wanted to elevate "the standards of the rapidly proliferating death-metal genre." Azagthoth brought his band over to England for a few shows with Napalm Death, and soon they were signed to Earache Records, a label designed to expose the true underground scene of heavy metal. Often called, sick, brutal, disgusting, and energetic, Morbid Angel eventually got a deal in America when Earache was distributed by Relativity Records. The band, although still underground, has become a major influence for bands in Florida (where there are many death-metal bands) and other parts of the U.S., as well as Europe, on the strength of efforts like 1994's Covenant, 1995's Domination and 1997's Entangled in Chaos: Live. In 1998, Morbid Angel returned with Formulas Fatal to the Flesh; a year later, the album was reissued to include a limited-edition bonus disc, Lava of Love. The new millennium brought the release of Gateways to Annihilation.
