Michigan Storm™ Imp: noun short for impostor As of late the reports of imps has been high in the Chathouse™, even to the point of someone imping a Chat Daemon again. So I went straight to the house to get some answers on how we can stop this! Of course they can't tell me all their secrets, but this is what I've found out. As we all know we have to register a handle before we can use any of the little extras at the Chathouse™ including the forums, which is where they seem to be having most of their troubles. Now when you register your handle you don't want anyone else to have the same one, but it is possible. Someone could be imping you right now! With a slight alteration and enough knowledge of how the forum works it could happen. Say whatever alteration they've made is something so insignificant that we look past it, we don't notice it… If someone knows enough about the forums they might know what symbols may or may not show up in the forum, hence leaving the handle looking the same. Or extra spaces at the end of a handle that might alter it enough for registration, but you wouldn't see blank spaces in the forum would you? However in the rooms themselves these symbols or spaces or other alterations might show as well as the IP that the other chatters might compare. So finding all this out left me wondering what the house can do about it, how can they find out who is imping? They can go into their information database and trace those offensive posts back to the originator, remember the information you gave at registration? Chathouse™ has a database that tracks all information on every user that is registered. Not to mention you're IP is seen each time you enter the house. The changes can be so minute that they may not be noticed at all, so unfortunately there is not much chatters can do unless they KNOW the tone of the chatter and suspect that it may be an imp. Of course if you're upset or concerned by something someone posts and you think it may be an imp, or are just curious if it is an imp maybe you could try EMAILING them before jumping to conclusions. Chathouse™ even offers you their new feature Anonymous Mail (which you'll find on the news page) if you don't want to use your own email.
GiverOfSugar®™ The American holiday, Memorial Day, is celebrated at the end of May every year. It is a day that marks not only the beginning of our summer months but MUCH more. Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, it was instituted (1868) to honor the Civil War dead, but it now commemorates all war dead. It is on this day that we look back and realize that our freedom and peace doesn't come free. Those who have fought for this freedom and lost their lives have PAID for our freedom. As well as those who were lucky enough to make it home to enjoy this freedom, they paid by losing days, weeks, months, possibly years of their life to give the rest of us ours. To insure our freedom and future. Sometimes this freedom is taken for granted, but on Memorial Day we give thanks and pay homage to our dead, our MIA and our POW's. It has also become custom for some to use this day to remember loved ones lost to death not necessarily in war and this is what we've welcomed you all to do in the zine this week *S*, however the responce level was very low... We've also opened the doors to you who may want to reach out to a friend or loved one you may have lost touch with. Even when not in death, the pain of loss is suffered.
My father fought in the Vietnam War. On his last mission he flew a plane into a battlefield to pick up wounded soldiers. He never made it up into the air. He was about off the runway when a sniper blew his jet to pieces. In turn killing all 14 men in his crew. Leaving him the soul survivor. My father walks with a permanant limp as a reminder of that horrific day. Also, he told me a story of how he kicked a mans two front teeth out when he was referred to as a 'baby killer'. Yes, terrible things happened over there. War is not in any way a glamorous or rosey event. It is horrible with many lives lost and families destroyed. But back then REPORTERS were bored a**holes who thought to belittle the very people who saved their pretty asses. My father in my eyes, is the most honarable alive. He fought for my country, he fought for my ancestory, he fought for ME. (not meaning to be rude, but can Chelsia Clinton say the same about her father?)
Now for my husband. Who served his four years in the marine corps. Thankfully he never went to war, but would gladly step up to the front lines if ever the country called him to the job. (Unlike some presidents who burn their draft cards.) Neither of these men are in the services now. Nor are they dead. But they should still be remembered for their conscious effort in stepping up to the line and defending our country. ~blue eyes~

Of The Week: It is amazing how much people
can get done if they do not worry about who gets the credit." Email me @ Michigan Storm™
THIS is obviously a new feature *S*. This will be included each week from now on because I want you all to
some of what I get to see and read. Some may or may not include the handle of whom wrote it, this will
be left up to my discretion AND/OR up to the writer. If I don't reply to your emails, it's not personal and I apologize, but it
doesn't mean yours will or will not be in the zine *S*, it just means I'm probably busy with one of my jobs or HPs *S*. That which is taken directly
from an email will be in quotations (" ") *S*.
"Just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy reading the E-Zine every week..
Have to tell you that out of curiosity I visited Joe's Diner.. (my usual
haunt is The Last Call..downstaris) I was a lil disappointed. After all the
greatt hings I heard people saying about it, I felt totally unwelcome. I
think only maybe one or two even said hello to me." "I wanted to tell you that you have created a great 'Zine! I am no longer a
chataholic. But there was a time (starting 5 years ago), that the chathouse was
an important part of my life. I spent most all of my chat time on the First
Floor, in the Jacuzzi (renamed Cuzziville). Reading your 'zine issues, has
rekindled the fondness I felt for all of my chat friends and all of the great
times we had. Heck, I might even get back in there and try chatting again.
*LOL*" (Francie)
"the background are ok, but hard to read through. COuld you lighten them or soemthing?"(OOPS I ermm hit delete and lost
the writers name *sorry*)
"the background is fairly hard to read over. Can you switch the base color to black, with a watermarked "Chathouse Zine" rising out of the blackness and switch the writing to white or light blue. It's cool if you can't I just think it would look sleeker. And, white on black is much easier to read." (MasterDingo) "Zero Gravity on the 2nd floor now has a home page. Eve's Mustang
For all the servicemen and women who died for what I have today I
would just like to say 'Thank you ' from my heart. I know in spirit they
can feel and hear me and I just want them all to know that without their
selfless service and ultimate sacrifice we americans would not enjoy the
prosperity of our live's and our nation today.
| KoRn Queen Ok so it is memorial day. The time we remember those lost in war. It's a very honorable observance in my opinion. I deeply respect anyone that went to war for their country and died.. But memorial day doesn't have to be just that. Yes I take the holiday serious. But you know I can't resist a good parody on something. With that I'd like to give this memorial day to those we've lost in chathouse/forum/room battles. Those that gave their cyber time for a true cause. TERRITORY, OWNERSHIP, RESPECT, AND THE TRUTH. I'd also like to remember those we've lost to the cyber game in general, not necessarily a cyber soldier, but a cyber person period. One that we never see, except maybe on those rare e-mail occasions. This is the day we all remember, and give thanks for those that gave for us. Online shouldn't be any different. All through out chathouse their is a sense of pride within where you reside. Whether it be the Flipside or East Wing. We represent our floor, we protect our room and we stand proud. Our friends back us up...... We are all in this together now. But this memorial day doesn't have to be about separation. Yes all come from 'our' chat levels and rooms. That doesn't mean we all can't have a mutual respect for eachother, just for one day. I know I'm the last one might expect to see something like this from. Well I'm all about breaking barriers, and pushing the limits. No I do not think this zine article is pushing limits. But I'm simply saying, this cyber world we create isn't the real one we are forced to exist in. We can make it anything we want, good, bad or ugly. Take it lightly, and don't let this world take you over. YOU take it over. And this memorial day lets remember that... People claim online should be all fun, well make it that way. Happy Memorial Day. Kimber™

That's what my ramble is about. How much the chathouse has changed! I have only been coming here a little over three years, and it has changed so much in just that little amount of time. I remember when the largest room in the chathouse was Cloud 9, hell, I remember when there were only nine levels to the whole chathouse!
It was funny really, I started out chatting in the fish tank. I still remember when the addition of Network Marketing Club was "the talk of the Next Level." *L*
The Next Level was always the active level(because you didn't have to register!), but not so much that each room had disignated chatters, nope, we pretty much all knew each other. We didn't have forums, we didn't have ignore public user. Most of the "features" that you guys get now, used to have to be paid for!
I still pop into the chathouse and Next Level sometimes, and I saw something that made me smile the other day. You want an oldie but goodie??? SitonMyStomach! That guy has been coming around forever! He is just about the only one I recognize anymore.
Okay, so maybe my ramble isn't about the chathouse, maybe it's about change in general. All the people I used to chat with have now moved on, for the most part. It's sad, but I'm sure they have moved on to bigger and better things. So all I can say, as far as chatting goes, make each day count with the people you care about online, everyone grows up and moves on. It happens to the best of us. *L*

Weather is getting hot here now... so we went to the local pool today... not a big place, but it had 2 diving boards... 1m and 3m. and the water was nice and warm.
My accent must be improving.. it only took me 3 tries last night to get a Coke, instead of the 7 the first night I got here...
Last Sunday Jon, the boys, and I went to Dallas to the book depository / 6th floor museum (as they call it now) where Lee Harvey Oswald supposedly shot John F. Kennedy from. It was very interesting... especially hearing the Government version inside the museum then hearing the conspiratory theorists version outside on the Grassy knoll.
