Decadent Cartoon Alternate RealitiesPeople have difficulty relating to others and often they turn to pathetic fantasies, but this makes for entertaining post modern art or something, like contemporary art brut or visionary art or whatever, because even though these people are probably sane, their drawings seem kinda "crazy".

Reality is a difficult Conundrum
The language of the cartoon has become a shorthand realism and in some cases it can convey more information and complexity than a totally abstract or realistic picture. It depends, of course, on what you're trying to say, but generally if you have a lot of contempt for this godawful world and every day is a struggle between misanthropy and bubbling good humor, imagery like the still from a Tex Avery cartoon to the right can say a thousand words, if not more. More often than not, those words will be "crazy". |
Non-Pedophilia Interesting?
It doesn't really need to be well done to be interesting or cool. Hell, you don't have to be insane, either. Furthermore, originality is overrated. Sometimes a crappy drawing made by a normal, non-psychotic person of something he didn't even make up can be just as rewarding as a pedophile nightmare from the likes of Henry Darger. Even though the kid who drew these X-men guys is normal, I still think they're kinda "crazay!" |
It's a case of the chicken and the egg, I suppose. ARe these forms simple and iconic when they get flushed out of our mind, or do they end up that way after countless years of "cultural programming" exposing us to these simple and weird exxaggerated semi-expressionistic nature-abomination depictions of pictures. All I know is that when I see folk sculptures that look like some post-disney world shock artist made them, a little bell rings. Not sure what that bell signifies, but watch out! This world is crazay! Let's Read on, shall we... |
