The music my parents pumped into by head during my childhood still remains in my collection of favorites today - most of all, Freakin' at the Freakers Ball.

I  recently saw on the news a very interesting story about a lady whose house was literally 8 feet deep in trash when they finally evicted her.  I guess she must have been a real life Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout.

For those of you who don't know, Stacy Brown is a song about a man who was freakishly born with two, yes, count 'em, two (2) male members. (Not ice cream cones, Dad!  But it is a good thing to tell the kids. I always wondered why he ran over to the record-player and would not  let me hear the next song... Polly in a Porny....:)

In the later half of insidecvrpro1.jpg (380189 bytes) the 70's, when I was, oh I'd say 11 years old or so, Dad started letting me take the album, album cover and sleeve into my own room to play it.  I was an 11 year old, alone in a room with the lyrics fully displayed along with that nudie picture inside the cover.  I wasn't exactly sure what it was all about back then but one thing I knew for sure I would always love this album!

I have to also mention here how much Dr. Hook music was playing constantly when I was growing up.  My Dad must be their biggest fan (or at least I thought so, until I went here).  He's not got a CD player yet and certainly hates computers but he did ask me a few years ago to record my Dr. Hook CD's for him as well as Louden Wainright III's Dead Skunk (in the middle of the road) (which was a '45' - it played over and over and over.)   We all loved to sing along!

I figure, lp's and dubbed cassettes won't last forever.  (Up until recently, I had been going on an old cassette copy of Dad's old album of Freakin' which is still in tact, playable and archiving safely in his attic in the Midwest.)  Just about two years ago in 1998, I went into my local record store and asked them to find and order two CD's for me.  Both of which were a very big part of my childhood as lp's.  The first was Marlo Thomas's All-star  Free to be You and Me which also features  Shel's " Helping" performed by Tom Smothers and "Ladies First" delivered by Marlo. (If you have kids, this is a great one for them!  Get it now!) At that time, I was told by my record store Freakin' was not available on CD anywhere.  Today,  I found it on CD by Sony Special Products and available through Amazon.com with three bonus tracks (and 'one's on the way'!). So, I guess they had to wait till ole uncle Shelby passed on to release it on CD.

Thanks for bringing back this Masterpiece!
