Shinji is the son of Ikari Gendo the director of the NERV organisation. He is a quiet and depress boy who often thinks that he is not needed. He and his father rarely talk and their relationship seems more like a boss employee relationship. He doesn't care living alone but Misato invites him to live in her messy apartment, were he becomes a little more lively.

Rei is the first child to pilot an evangelion. Very little is known about her past. Rei apears to be some sort of emotionless person, likes to be alone and rarely speaks. She seems to only care for Gendo because he burned his hand triying to save her in an experiment with unit EVA-00. At first she doesn't like Shinji, but then her impresion about him changes when he burns his hands saving her.

NERV: Pilot of unit EVA-002 (2nd child)
Asuka is a German girl who was specialy trained in germany before been in NERV. Asuka is often selfish and likes to win in everything. She dislikes Rei and will challenge her in whatever she does. Whenever there was need for the evangelions she would elect herself as the leader and always make mistakes. Often she is seen arguing with Shinji like they were married.

NERV: Tactician
Misato works in NERV in charge of EVA operations. Misato's apartment is a big mess and her refrigerator is full of beer, she drinks lots of it, when she wakes up the first thing she does is drink a beer. Misato is always telling Shinji to be a men and not to run from reality. She is like a substitude mother for Shinji (what a mother ^^! ).

NERV: Comander of NERV
Gendo is the creator of the evangelions, for it he is the comander of NERV. Gendo sees his son Shinji like an object to destroy the angels. In the other hand he cares a lot about Rei, he treats her like a daughter.
