Fractals
is a very wide area of interest, and there are in fact many
online resources about fractals. Whether you would like more
in-depth information about the science of fractals, or you just
want to see tons of beautiful pictures, just check out the sites
below.
- Contest2k - This is the central
fractal contest on the internet. The winners are
extraordinarily beautiful, and the contest is very well
run. Have a look. * * * * ½
- Alice Kelley's Fractal Art - This site contains by
awesome and beautiful fractals. This site is strictly
artistic, so don't expect any other fractal information,
but the fractals here are mind-bogglingly beautiful. * * * *
½
- The
Spanky Fractal Database - A HUGE fractal database and tons of links, but
the layout and organization are horrible. * * *
- Cynthia Lanius' Lessons: A fractal lesson - A well-written
introduction to basic fractal design - great for the
beginner interested in learning how basic formula
fractals are created. * * * *
- The Fractory - An impressive site. Includes a cgi that lets you
create your own fractals as well as a good layout and
interesting info. * * * * ½
- Sprott's Fractal Gallery - If you have broadband,
then check this site out. Lots of great chaos/strange
attractors as well as the programs to make them yourself,
but very slow loading. Recommended for more advanced
users. * * * *
- Lunacy
Image Gallery - Very slow, and quite confusing, but some very
nice fractals overall. * * *
- The
Infinite Fractal Loop - Very well-made. Although a little confusing,
it's a fun site that has tons of links to good fractal
sites. * * * *
- Flying Frog Fractals -
Very nice pictures. They are mostly
nice fractals that have been edited on Photoshop. * * *
½
- The Geometry Junkyard
- A resource for cutting-edge
mathematical information and message boards about
fractals. Recommended only for those with a strong
mathematical background. * * * *
- Fractals As Art - Some very pretty pictures, as well as some
awesome 3-dimensional fractal renderings. As the name
implies, it deals with fractals strictly as an art form,
and is mostly a small art gallery. * * *
- Java Fractals - Although quite mathematically complex, this is
an amazing fractal resource. Besides containing extensive
information on fractals, this site has a variety of
online fractal explorers. A must see. * * * *
- General Interest Fractals - Some quite beautiful
images using cutting-edge mathematics partially explained
on the site. This site is good for looking at, or for
people interested in the more complex mathematics. * * *
