 P.Ramlee - The Music

His music has been a source of inspiration for all who has heard them. His songs, like his films, reflected the soul of the Malay people in particular and Malaysians in general. Laid back and lifeful. They were themes that revolved around everyday life. His compositions were distinctively Malay in style, especially as they contained elements derived from traditional keroncong music fused with current pop melodies of the era.

He was a prolific songwriter, writing mainly songs for films in which he both acted and sang. His was mainly influenced by Hindustani film music, though he eventually created a distinctive Malay style which contained elements derived from keroncong music fused with the current pop music at that time, particularly the Twist and the Beatles.

 The RealAudio Files
 The .AU Files
P.Ramlee released songs under the H.M.V. label. However, contractual disputes led to a temporary leave of absence from the recording industry between 1952 to 1955. During this time, many of his compositions were recorded by various other popular vocalists.

On this website, you can find some midi, .au and realaudio files that I have collected through the months. However, the main focus of the site are the realaudio or realmedia files. I began creating these because they had the gritty radio-like qualities of sound that seem to echo the past. The copyright remains with their respective authors and copyright holders. If you contact me, I will be glad to place your name where it should be.
