What is the "Safer River, Life Saver (SRLS)?
SRLS is a multi-sectoral endeavor aimed to protect and
enhance the ecology of Cagayan de Oro River in order to
maximize benefits from its utilization. 2.
Why was it formed?
SRLS was organized to positively respond to the
national clamor to protect water resources from
pollution. Specifically, the objective is to maximize
the benefits which maybe derived from the river's vast
potentials for the best interest of the City in
particular and for common welfare of its resident in
general. 3. When was the SRLS
conceived?
SRLS was conceived on April 9, 1997 when LdCU, through
her School of graduate studies (SGS) hosted a technical
paper agencies. The theme of the first conference is the
protection and enhancement of the Cagayan de Oro River. 4.
What is the role of SRLS?
It is to exercise moral leadership and advocacy for the
preservation of our diminishing forest and watershed
areas, to promote clean and fresh air, to conserve
water, to protect wildlife and aquatic life which are
concomitant to the preservation of Cagayan de Oro River. 5.
What is our School (LdCU)'s commitment to SRLS?
LdCU's commitment to the project encompasses the
organizational and implementation aspects of its seven
TWG's and involve there in, initially, her faculty and
students, and ultimately the community that stands to
benefit from the project for generations yet to come.
Most importantly, LdCU through her school of graduate studies,
established the Center for Environmental Studies (CES)
to conduct scientific studies on the river as basis for
concerted efforts on its preservation, as well as other
related environmental studies. These are basic to the
thrusts of LdCU in research and extension. |
