A very clear and quick to download tube map

The London Pass
OK you've seen ads for this all over my site but it really is a good deal if you're travelling to London. You'll get free admission to over 50 attractions, free public transport, free Internet access at Cyberia Internet cafés, free admission to selected cinemas and £5 of free phone calls with First Telecom. In some instances, the London Pass allows you to beat the queues as some attractions have a pre-paid ticket counter where you can swipe your card to gain access. Although the London Pass may be purchased in London, only passes purchased through the London Pass web site include free transport within London. Free transport covers the full six London Transport zones which includes both London City and Heathrow Airports as well as many of the more far-flung attractions. If you're planning on extensive sightseeing, the London Pass is a good investment. Adult prices are: one-day £22, two-days £39, three-days £49 and six-days £79. Discounted rates apply to children under 15.

The London Pass

Videos on London Underground
For the real trainspotters amongst you!!!!

Poems not on the Underground
Find out about a book of parodies of the Poems on the Underground advertising which explores travelling on London Transport's buses and tubes, and includes the great poem "To tube or not to tube".

Ultimate London Page
Certainly one of the best sites from the London webrings I belong to. Read about the origin of London's place names, its slang, the Piccadilly Line on the Underground, and Arsenal Football Club (well it can't be perfect!). There is also an amusing tourist guide aimed at visitors from the American continent. Well worth a visit.

The Lonely Planet's London Links
If you're visiting London and want some good sites for sight-seeing, check out the links here. They reccommnded this site so that should give you advance warning of what you're letting yourself in for!!

Emmy's Underground Page
A good site with lots of info about the tube. Trivia, funny bits and history of the tube system.

Downloadable Tube Announcements
Versions of "Mind the Gap", "This train terminates at" and loads more tube sounds.

Carter's Unofficial Guide to the Underground
Another good site about the tube, this time seen through the eyes of American Scott Carter (Check out his holiday snapshots!). Loads of links to sounds of the tube. History, and some information about Frank Pick the man who was responsible for the London Transport's wonderful typeface.

Close approximation of London Underground's Johnston Font

If you're making a web page choose Trebuchet MS as your face font and if people have this on their browsers/PC it gives you a very close approximation to the London Underground Johnston Font - if you think this font looks like The London Underground's one you've got Trebuchet MS on your PC!! If you haven't you can download it FREE here

Tube Trip.com
If you like my site you'll love Tube Trip. Some really excellent Flash animations in this site where you can get your revenge on tube walkman players, people who eat on the tube and people who don't watch where they put their umbrellas. Higly recommended although you do need Flash to view it. See my tube rules page for more on umbrella maniacs, tubemusic for loud walkman players and tubefood for people who eat smelly food on the tube.

Subway navigator
Excellent site which has a tube journey planner on it. Put in the name of the station you are travelling from and the one you are travelling to and it will calculate the shortest route for your journey. Or simply search by a listof stations or pick the stations you want from the tube map. It also has links to tourist attractions and places of interest next to the stations.

Raggajohn's London Underground Site
Now this site is great if you want to talk to a real London Underground train driver and ask him all sorts of technical questions about trains, deadman's handles, rolling stock etc. He also has some good technical articles on his site too, so if you're a tube teccy it's the perfect place to visit.

Facts and Figures about the London Underground
Just one page from Ian Peacock's highly informative site about the London Underground. Find out the highest and lowest points on the tube (no high points in my opinion). Busiest Lines and stations and facts about escalators. Plus loads of other stuff on Ghost stations and photos of London Underground Service trains which are used in the middle of the night.

History of The Underground
Extremely comprehensive site about the 40 disused stations or "ghost" stations on the underground, with many "uses" for these closed stations too.

Guide to The London Underground
Very useful line by line guide to the London Underground. Dedicated to particular lines with the order of stops, which zones they are in (this is important for working out your fare) and links to tourist attractions and other important landmarks which can be visited by using these lines. Highly recommended for tourists.

Tube Prune
Another excellent site from "insiders" on the London Underground. There's some brilliant stories here about life on the tubes from the perspective of the people who actually work on London Underground.

London Tourist Information
Extensive site with hotels, sightseeing, and lots of other tips for tourists such as how we Londoners stand in queues, and a useful guide to Londoner's slang (differs Cockney rhyming slang), alright guv!!!

UK for Visitors
Very comprehensive site for people visiting England, with sections on London, railways, National Parks, tourist attractions and much more.

Londonside.com
Don't come to London without taking a look at this site. Remarkably "tongue in cheek" (or is it) you get an Australian's (although he's now living in London) guide to what you need to survive your trip to London. Highly recommended.

London Walks
This is a brillant service. It's a walking tour company in London, with nearly 40 years experience in the business. The walks last for two hours and the guides are all skilled with huge background knowledge of their subject areas. All the walks start and finish near tube stations. Check it out.

The London Pass

Subways Net
This site contains links to other subway sites around the world. Also has some snazzy railwroad screen savers and links to other places to find worldwide news about railways.

London Transport Trivia Quiz
Good page if you get some tricky question in a crossword or competition about London Transport. Contains the answer to my favourite tube question - What's unique about St John's Wood tube station? You either know the answer to this or you don't!!!!

Jubilee Line Driver's Site
Want to talk to a driver on the Jubilee Line? Want to find more about drivers' announcements and sounds? Also there's the promise of another simulated computer train drive and a BVE. Not it's nothing to do with BSE (mad cow's disease) but stands for Boso View Express a freeware Japanese Train Simulator.

iRail Railway Search Engine

Saveourrailways.com
Great site which campaigns about the privatisation of the railways.

Alwaystouchout.com
Very nicely designed site which provides a comprehensive guide to the latest Transport Projects in London.

District Dave's London Underground Site
Growing site from another tube driver - sorry Train Operator - on the District Line. Lots of inside stories, pictures from his cab and his own daily diary. Nice view from The "Fish & Parcels" Line.

Stockholm subway system
If you want to see how the tube works in Sweden go to this site. There's also a number of other links to underground systems throughout the world on this site. As mentioned earlier I hope to have an international page to my site about tube systems everywhere, but I want to keep it very much in the spirit of my site!! So it's taking a while to find like minded souls to link with and write about.

Urban Exporlorers Network
Not about the London Underground but a fascinating site for people who are interested in exploring underground spaces. And they don't mean pot holing. Travel deserted subways and mainly tunnels underneath American colleges. It's another world!

Another Sun
New online magazine which features an interview with me about the history of Going Underground. Find out why I decided to build this site and its major milestones.

The Funny Side of Transport
If you join "Routes International" (it's free) you'll have online access to a collection of weird and funny stories about public transport. A huge amount about buses but there are also pages of stories about trains and planes too.

London Transport Museum
Visit this site if you want to get hold of tube memorabilia like trendy MIND THE GAP T-shirts, posters, socks and whole range of other trendy stuff with London Transport logos and station signs on them. Shame they don't sell sour faces though as most London Transport staff seem to have a monopoly on them!!!!

The Official London Underground Site
Much as it pains me to put this site on, it probably is worth having a look at this site, if you haven't come across it already. There's all the stuff you'd expect like maps, times (ha, ha, ha - you can only believe the first and last train times as I sincerely don't know of any timetable on the Underground that you can rely on) and other travel information.

Official Guide to Ticket Fares, Prices and Travelcards
Again, I'm referring you to London Underground's Official site only because I don't want you to buy what you think is an "unlimited" Travelcard and then travel outside your zone and get a 10 pound penalty fare. If you're travelling to London as a tourist or out of towner it's really worth having a look at this page and the pages which link to it.

BBC News Archives
Failing the above, there's a good source of stories about the tube on here from the archives of the BBC.
