The Sunoco West Rouge Tournament (July 28th, & 29th)

On the weekend of July 28 and 29, the Hillcrest Hurricanes blew up in storm in the Sunoco West Rouge Tournament. On the first day of play Hillcrest turned out the lights on Brighton 6-1, then slipped past The Petrolia Oilers 4-1. In the third game of the day, the Hurricanes, their 13 man roster decimated with two injuries, lost a tough battle being shocked by the Orillia Lightning 1-0. Overall their performance landed them in third place in the field of ten, and earned them a spot in the semi-finals on the second day of play. - Rick Ross

Under continued sunny skies on the second day, Hillcrest defeated Brampton, who had finished first in the previous day's round robin, 2-1 to move into the finals against the same Orillia team they had lost to the day before. This time, however, the story had a different ending, with the Hurricanes showing that lightning doesn't strike twice, shutting out the Orillia Lightning 3-0. - Rick Ross

The Hurricanes success was a real team effort. Although it was extremely difficult to single anyone out, R. Jason Hearst (Goalkeeper) was selected by the Orillia Lightning as the most valuable player on the tournament championship team. He won a MVP medal, two gift certificates, and Toronto Lynx tickets in addition to the trophies he and his team-mates collected. - Rick Ross RIGHT PICTURE--> TOP ROW (Left to Right): Derek Hannon (Coach), Mike Gaggi, Jeff Hannon, John Cintosun, Ige Egal, Kunal Sarkar, David Bevacqua, Rick Ross (Coach) BOTTOM ROW (Left to Right): Emre Duzenli, Andy Blaga, Kamal Ali, R.
