Gargoyles: Introducion!

975-990 A.D. Gargoyles were common at that time, but they were thought of as beasts and inferior monsters. They usually protected castles and in return, the humans would protect the gargoyles during the day (since gargoyles turn to stone from dawn till dusk). Our particular gargoyles protected Castle Wyvern. Vikings made the mistake of attacking Castle Wyvern just as the sun set and the gargoyles came to life. Their stubborn leader insited that the gargoyles were not real, so he forced his men to attack. The gargoyle clan, led by the brave gargoyle Goliath, drove off the vikings, but were given no thanks by the humans. No one showed their gratitude except the Captain of the Gaurd.

Princess Catherine of Wyvern Castle wasn't too keen on the idea of gargoyles being in her presence (One of the gargoyles, Hudson, had failed to protect her father, and she still held her grudge). The "straw that broke their back" was at dinner when the Captain of the Gaurd (without authorization) brought Goliath and Demona (Goliath's love and second in command) to be thanked for their brave work against the vikings. She sent them away like beasts. Demona planned a betrayal along with the Captain of the Gaurd to rid the castle of humans (with him as the exception). The plan was for Goliath to lead all of the gargoyles out of the castle to make sure the vikings had left. While they were away, the vikings were to attack the castle and taking all the humans prisoner. When the gargoyles came back, it would be completely empty, so that they could live in it without humans.

However, Goliath refused to take the other gargoyles. Instead, he went to scare off any remaining vikings with only an older gargoyle, Hudson, by his side. He wasn't told about their plan. The Captain of the Gaurd inisted that the plan could still work and promised Demona to keep the rest of the gargoyles safe. But Demona took precautions and flew to the bottom of the cliff, away from the castle. But when the battle started, the Captain of the Gaurd wasn't able to save the gargoyles. Every gargoyle that the vikings could see were destroyed. There were 4 more survivors though. There were also 3 young gargoyles and a gargoyle dog who had been scaring the resident humans. "If they think we're monsters, I guess we better live up to the name" was their quote. But Goliath caught them and sent them to the most humiliating place in the castle. The Rookery. This was where all the eggs from the gargoyles were kept, and was for the youngest gargoyles. They had stayed there through the entire battle, thus surviving. Thus, few gargoyles remained. Goliath, Demona, Hudson, the gargoyle dog (Bronx), and 3 young gargoyles (Lexington, Brooklyn, and Broadway).

Goliath, Hudson, Lexington, Broadway, Brooklyn and Bronx were furious and vengeful after they found out that their clan had been destroyed. Demona had chosen not to reveal herself because she wanted to come back later when Goliath would be so glad to see her that he wouldn't ask questions about how she survived. So the clan of 6 thought Demona had died with the rest of the gargoyles. The vikings were planning to ransom Princess Catherine and a young magician (The Meagus) to another kingdom. Or if they couldn't do that, they would kill them both. Just then, the 6 surviving gargoyles attacked the vikings to rescue the humans from Castle Wyvern. The leader of the vikings and his accomplice (none other than the Captain of the Gaurd) took the Princess and announced that they would kill her because of the gargoyle interference. The Meagus was in love with Princess Catherine. He blamed the gargoyles for her death. With his magic skills, he cast a spell on 5 of the gargoyles, turning them to stone until Castle Wyvern rose above the sky (impossible at that time). But only 5 gargoyles? Yes, Goliath was not there. He had gone to save the Princess and kill the Viking leader and the Captain of the Garud. He was able to save the princess (The 2 betrayers fell off the cliff, to their doom). Goliath brought her back. When he returned, he found out that was denied the rest of his clan. The gargoyles were placed on Wyvern Castle. He asked Princess Catherine and the Meagus to take care of their rookery eggs and to put him under the spell too.

They slept for a millenium until the late 1900's. They were awakened by a wealthy, clever man named David Xanatos who brought the Wyvern Castle above the clouds, along with the gargoyles. Xanatos was intruiged when he read the Meagus' story. The Meagus had written it down in his book of spells, the Grimoirum Acrinorum. Now the reduced clan must adapt to their new time... facing the third race, magical items, human reactions, old enemies, new enemies, and powerful beings...
