What I Have Done...

Since my trial, I have done everything humanly possible to make the authorities to understand that they prosecuted the wrong person.

The first year and a half following the trial was consumed by writing letters. I wrote several letters to the Magistrate and the Commonwealth's Attorney, each answered with superiority overtones and offering nothing. I continued my quest by writing to the Judicial Review Board, the State's Attorney General, the Governor of Virginia, my State Representatives and Senators, and, my U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senators.

Each eagerly awaited response advised me that this was a matter for the courts and that I should contact a lawyer. Each attorney that I contacted advised me that the Statute of Limitations had passed and that I had no recourse in the courts -- truly a “catch 22” situation.

Not being a person who gives up, I was determined to get my story out. I went to the City of Staunton and applied for a Public Protest permit. I was granted a one-year permit. In April of 2001, I began to carry signs of protest in the streets. Each sign was double sided, and contained a message directed at my accuser. I continued to carry the messages of protest until I moved from the city of Staunton in May 2003.

Although I did gain some public support and understanding towards my situation, I was unsuccessful in getting my evil accuser to confess, to show any remorse, or to accept responsibility for her actions. Likewise, the unwilling superiority of the local authorities did not change. I continued to be considered guilty of a crime that I did not commit.
