PERSONAL COACHING FOR SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ABUSE

Sexual Abuse Treatment, Research, Resource, and Referral Homepage

Throughout the years that we have been providing services for survivors of sexual abuse, we have identified numerous needs that many people have in common. One of the most common dynamics that we have observed with survivors is the fear of happiness and being successful. This fear can have devastating effects on motivation (work, therapy, relationships, etc) and can work to sabotage relationships. Moreover, we understand that many survivors of sexual abuse are not in need of formal specialized therapy, but would benefit from a personal mental health coach to assist them with specific or general tasks or objectives.

Personal Coaching first works to identify the individual needs of the person. A master's level psychotherapist serves as your personal coach to help you acheive your full potential in life. First, an action plan is created with the individual and professional. This plan will identify specific needs and objectives to work on and acheive.

The first contact is conducted through the Internet via email. Mr. Rosenberg or an associate you select to be your coach will send you a questionnaire to complete and return via email. The second contact involves the coach establishing a time and date to call you to get to know you and to discuss your needs. Once your needs have been identified, you and your coach will develop an action plan with detailed objectives to achieve, and will establish the frequency and modality of contact that will best serve you.

A personal coach is designed to support and motivate you to achieve your goals and objectives. Depending on your needs, you may receive personal phone calls from your coach daily, emails, and Instant Message meetings. Your coach will provide you with resources, exercises, homework, and will assist you through situations that you have, in the past, found difficult to handle. It is important to remember that your personal coach is not intended to serve as a professional psychotherapist. Even though your coach is trained as a master's level psychotherapist, he or she will provide professional and personal mental health coaching services. If your coach believes you may benefit from psychotherapy, he or she will discuss this with you and assist you in finding one in your area. Many people who are in formal psychotherapy also enlist the services of a personal coach to assist them with achieving their therapeutic goals.
