When tempers are short and anger flares,
And the air is tense and hot;
Try a little gentleness
And defuse the whole lot.

When a friend is hurting,
And tears flow freely;
Try a little gentleness,
To heal the heart really.

When a child is afraid,
Doesn't seem to find joy;
Try a little gentleness,
It reaches every girl and boy.

When you need to impart correction
To a member of the fold,
Try a little gentleness,
Your words he will hold.

Try a little gentleness,
That's what my Jesus would do;
Try it day after day,
The effects may surprise you.
