This very distinctive Metro has plenty to appeal to the driver with sporting instincts. Its broad, two-colour coachlies are echoed by a strikingly different strobe upholstery material and a wealth of high performance features. Fittingly, the Metro 1.3S is also powered by the 1.3 version of the A-plus engine, developed from the famous and thoroughly proved A Series engine. Transversely mounted and driving the front wheels, this willing power unit is matched with Metro's unique Hydragas (TM) suspension, rack and pinion steering, equal length drive shafts and powerful servo assisted dual circuit brakes, to provide a heady mix of high performance and handling. Instrumentation and driving controls are comprehensive, with a digital clock set within the large rev counter, a bank of nine warning lights in a 4 inch square quick-glance area, a soft-feel steering wheel and fingertip stalk controls. For all its lively flair, the Metro 1.3S is a highly practical car, thanks to generous interior dimensions and the unique 'split action' rear seat. Consider the possibilities. With all five seats in the upright position, you have a useable bootspace of 7.47 cu.ft. Fold down the single rear seat section and you've created room for a long, narrow article or even a carry-cot, whilst retaining rear seating for two. With the double rear seat section folded, there's still room for one adult in the rear and an impressive amount of luggage. Or, for maximum load capacity, you can fold down both rear seat sections, to obtain a gross loadspace volume of 45.7 cu.ft. An additional touch of ingenuity, common to all Metros, is the rear parcels shelf, which can be removed completely, or can be swung down and locked to the rear seat squab to make room for tall objects in the boot. Pace, style and all-purpose versatility, that's the Metro 1.3S. |
What I find weird about this page is that this is supposed to be the sporty model in the line up. Hence the amazing seat coverings. But are they talking about 0-60 times, or how the Metro loves the open road? No, this is where they choose to explain the Metro's unique "split action" rear seat and demonstrate how many suitcases will fit in the boot. |
