Hallelujah - This word can
be broken down into two parts. The first, "hallel" means to boast
or brag on God even to the point of possibly looking foolish. The
second part of the word, "Jah", is a shortened name for God. So hallelujah
is to boast or brag on God.
Now when you say or sing hallelujah, do
it as a bragging or boasting on God!
When we think of a place in the
Bible where there is much praise and worship, we naturally think of the
Psalms. Below I have listed the verses where you can find the word
Hallelujah. Look how many there are! I think it is important
that we know what it means.
Psalms 104:35; 105:45; 106:1, 48;
111:1; 112:1; 113:1, 9; 115:18; 116:19; 117:2; 135:1, 3, 21; 146:1, 10;
147:1, 20; 148:1, 14; 149:1, 9; 150:1, 6.
Praise - There are many words translated praise. Here
is a table of all of them if you would like to see all the words translated
as Praise in the Bible - PRAISE
Basically, though, it means to celebrate. If we
praise God, we are celebrating Him.
