HENRY & JOHN BANKS (ENGLISH VIOLIN)with a long history.

This is a beautiful crafted instrument with a full bodied tone.It has been well played over the years and is recognised for its Amati appearance. The two peace back of medium curl, the table of medium grain, the varnish of redish brown color. Labled James and Henry Banks, Salisbury, Feciunt. 1803 and stamped internally Banks on the top and bottom blocks and on the back middle bout linning. Length of back 13 7/8in. (35.3cm.) This violin was exhibition of english instruments arranged to commemorate the visit of the International Society of Violin and Bow Makers to London in June 1961, and later at the Banks Exhibition in Salishbury in 1989. This information was gained from Sotherby's Musicial Instruments London book and the owner plus having it played and examining it.
