Click Here for Urgent Message Regarding Excessive Barking

Our park neighbors have complained of excessive barking. We must do a better job of controlling barking. We ask that owners immediately take control of their dogs when they start barking. If a dog's barking can't be stopped swiftly by the owner, the dog must leave the park or be muzzled.

Meeting/Celebration/Brunch April 15!!!

On April 15th we celebrated the improvements at the dog park with a combination brunch and first general membership meeting. Check here for minutes of the meeting, which will be posted soon.

Landscaping Project

The Banneker DEA will soon benefit from a landscape project designed to improve aesthetics, control storm water, and provide a buffer between the DEA and the neighboring residences and soccer field. What started as a community project to be funded and planted by park users has turned into a larger project that will be implemented by Arlington County. At this time, we do not need landscaping plants donated by our members.

Improvements

Come and see the new fence, double gates, kiosk, wheelchair access, and frostfree, year-round water supply! Soon there will be more gravel to improve drainage in the area around the kiosk. A storage shed dedicated to park equipment and tools will be built by the summer.

New Poop Policy

In recent months many daily dog visitors have left dog waste that their owners failed to clean up. One of the important responsibilities for Banneker Dogs as the park sponsor is to keep the park clean; we cannot leave these stray poops lying on the ground. Therefore, it has unfortunately fallen upon a few the unpleasant job of cleaning up daily after others.

This situation calls for the following new poop policy that depends upon the daily participation by all of the human park users.

For every dog you bring into the park, please pick up at least one or two poops -- and not necessarily your own dog's poop.

In practice, this means that, rain, snow or shine, even if you don't catch your dog in the act, you are still expected to pick up at least one or two stray poops before you leave the park. If everyone follows this policy, the park will be always be clean and healthy for everyone's enjoyment and no one will bear an unfair burden.
