~*Chapter 20*~

"Hey, I understand if it's the PMS working on ya, it's okay," Nick said.

"Nick, it's not PMS. I can't be the only one making accomidations for this to work. Don't expect me to sit around and let you do everything. That's not me, and I'm going to go to work, whether you like it or not," I said, frustrated.

"Hey, listen. You think I'm not making accomidations?" Nick asked.

"Kinda. 'I can't be neat,' 'I wanna act like AJ'. Why can't you let me just be me for once? Not let you just take all the jobs because you're a guy?" I said, repeating what he'd said earlier. I looked out the window, as rain started to fall. My emotions felt the same- stormy and uncertain. I was so excited to live with Nick, but not if he was going to treat me as some dummy. It wasn't me, and he knew that. He couldn't change me. "Jess, I want you to let me work. Why can't you accept that? Why don't you want me to do the work?" Nick asked, getting mad.

"Nickolas Gene Carter, you know that's not me. If anyone, I thought you knew that," I said. He stopped for a stop light, and I opened the door.

"Where the hell are you going?" Nick yelled.

"For a walk, I'll meet you at home," I said, slamming the door in his face. I saw him start to question, but the light changed and he had no other choice but to leave. I walked over to the curb, and started walking in the direction of our new house. We were only.... an hour away by car. This was going to be a long walk, I thought to myself, starting on the trek home. I felt the rain splash against my shoulders and head, and I felt like slapping myself for forgetting the umbrella. I looked down, and felt even worse. I forgot I'd chosen a white tank top, and jeans. Not a perfect choice for walking in the rain. I felt cars pass, and I heard a car full of guys honk their horn. "Just what I need," I mumbled. The car started to pull over, and I started to sprint. I needed to get away from them... fast. Who knows what they were on, and what they'd been drinking.

"Hey baby!" one guy yelled, getting out of the car, "Don't you wanna ride home?"

"No thanks!" I yelled behind me, walking quickly.

"C'mon, you might get wet!" he pleaded.

"Nah! I already am!" I retorted, rounding the corner. I finally heard the car turn on and leave, leaving behind squealing tires.

"Phew," I groaned. That was definitely a close one. I saw an open deli, and felt my stomach growl. I hadn't been very hungry on the plane, so I gave all my stuff to Nick. Besides, it didn't look very pleasing as it was. I found a 10 dollar bill in my pocket, and walked in. I ordered a turkey sandwich, and payed. As I walked out, I saw the rental car we'd ordered round a corner. I kept walking, holding the bag in one hand, and acted as though I didn't see him. I heard the car slow down, and the window open. "Hey, honey. I'm sorry. Come here and dry off," Nick said, holding up a towel.

"Nick...can we talk about this?" I asked, nearing the corner.

"No," Nick said, teasingly.

"Fine," I retorted, backing away from the car and returning to the sidewalk.

"Jess! I"m kidding, hop in!" I opened the door, and stepped in.

"I'm so sorry," he said, kissing me.

"Nick, you have to understand. I'm Jessica Marie Brown Carter..... I can stand on my own two feet, and I, and so do you, know you can't make me change my mind," I said, opening the bag.

"I know. I was trying to show my power, but it didn't impress you much," Nick laughed.

"That don't impress me much, oh oh o-oh!" I sang.

"I love you. I'm sorry about how I was giving so many orders, and not listening to you. I'm really sorry," Nick said, starting the car again.

"It's okay. I love you too. Just... tomorrow we'll go shopping together for stuff, and we'll listen to each other's ideas, promise?" I asked, holding out my pinkie. Nick laughed at my childish move, but locked pinkies with me and said,

"Pinkie promise."

"So.... are you excited?" I asked Nick, returning to the conversation from before.

"Kinda, but we still need to get new sheets," he said, making a face.

"Hey! I happen to like my sheets!" I giggled, looking at the horrified look on his face.

"Here, want some?" I asked, holding out some sandwich.

"Sure," Nick said, grabbing half.

"Don't you ever get full?" I asked, watching him scarf down his part.

"Nope, I just eat, and eat, and eat.." Nick said.

"Like the Energizer bunny?" I teased.

"Funny," he said. For the rest of the ride home, we talked about the improvements, and supplies we needed for the house for the two of us.
