Welcome to the Book of Diversions !! Here you will find all that you (n)ever wanted to see which diverts you from day to day worries and take you to an interesting world of trivia, stories and poetry ..Don't you worry .not all of them are my creation . We were always impressed by the fact how easy it is to amuse the human mind using simple anecdotes and trifle information etc. But it is also surprising how reluctant we are to laugh at things and look at events at the lighter side. I do not know for sure whether Homo Sapiens is the only species which has the capability to smile and laugh, but I am sure that it is the only one which refuses to. Trivia is our humble attempt to make you laugh and think at the same time. The concept of Mini Stories is probably one of the most time saving health technique man has invented. I am sure O Henry has written hundreds of these which, amused generations with their humorous twists, thought provoking language and abrupt ending. We too try to create mini stories here . Poetry is the spontaneous emission of powerful feelings, they say. Here are some which are neither spontaneous, nor the result of powerful feelings. But these could still make you think and laugh (or cry ??!!) Elaine Leyda comments : On the
paragraph describing the poetry link, there might be one
correction. It is the reference or mention of
Wordsworth's famous description of what poetry is; the
description is so much used that it has become a bit
skewed. Anyway, Wordsworth said that poetry is the
"recollection" of the spontanesous overflow of
powerful emotions", further, these are
"recollected in tranquility." That really does
change things! If poetry is recollections in tranquility,
then it is not at all what many (especially young and
passionate!) would like: it is not, according to W., the
spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings. Such a notion
is opposite to Wordsworth's whole corpus. This is not to
correct those who do believe that poetry is to be
unchecked emotionalism, or whatever, but just to adjust
attributing such notions to old Wordsworth. And, since
your page does make mention of what did, initially, come
from old W., I thought I'd just send this addendum.
