Plains update

New information regarding the plains.

Established Wizards may experience the plains by creating a test wizard (by putting the word test, tester or something like that at the end of the wizard handle). These "test" wizards may not advance to sanctification level, the same rules regarding minions apply to test wizards.

White wizards have access to zero level Ether channels, if you are creating a new Ether and don't want plains wizards to have access then set the level of the channel at one or higher.

White have a large amount of patience, but The Servants of TSOTL are working to reduce it to be comparable with Gray wizards.

Manna works differently on the plains. There is no climbing tax, but if you miss a question you lose one manna.

The question difficulty selector is not a button of any sort, it's just there to show you that the questions on the Plains are "easy."

After answering one hundred questions, White wizards are given two options:
1. Choose the mountain she wishes to graduate to.
2. Let TSOTL choose a mountain for the wizard to graduate to.
They then become a Gray wizard on the mountain they graduate to.

More changes are in store, the Reporter will keep you updated. For more information visit these Ether channels: Phase II: The Plains, Phase III: The Caverns, Announcements, & The Ri Shoo Colonization Channel.

Meet your Elders:

This week the Reporter speaks with Lord Morpheus, "Father" of the Pyro-Maniacs.

Reporter: Currently you are the highest level wizard on Ri Shoo. How does it feel to be "King of the Mountain?"

Lord Morpheus: Actually it feels pretty damn lonely. (laughs) It's a nice feeling I guess. I gave up my magenta robe to come here and get the colonization moving, so I really wanted to get it back quickly. But now that I have it, it's just a nicer robe made out of nicer fabric. I'm actually hoping that some of the other wizards below me join me soon up here.

I figure right now I can best use my status up here as a way of helping out my teamates in their climb, with either manna or the odd promote. Never been big on large promotions though. But on occasion a little "boost" is cool.

So in the meantime it's a very slow and arduous climb as I'm the only one getting the magenta types of questions. And I'll tell you this, I hate these questions. It seems the only reason they're up this high on the mountain is because they're sloppy, ambiguous, questions. A good example is a "Who was the first......" kind of question....well, so far I've found two men accredited to being the first. And so far two variations one one of their names are wrong and the other name I found is wrong too. Makes for a slow climb. And a lot of cursing at the mentors. (laughs)

Reporter: You seem to have picked up the nickname "Father of the Pyro-Maniacs." Do you feel like this?

Lord Morpheus: Have my team-mates taken to calling me this behind my back? (laughs) I think I've only heard reference to it once, and was unaware that it had stuck.

I guess in some ways maybe I do. But I think a lot of that is because other than Synergy I've been a longer member that just about everyone, and other than Synergy probably the oldest member in terms of playing time. Though Synergy only beats me by a few hours.

And perhaps the "father" reference stems again from being "king of the hill" so to speak. I do try to distribute the fruits of my powerclimbing to the other members on the way up once I top up my manna. But that's slowed down as my climbing has almost been put to a halt, and I've had to struggle for manna a few times myself lately.

Reporter: What made you wish to join the Pyro-Maniacs?

Lord Morpheus: Well, given that Synergy and I are engaged, it seemed a natural fit to be in a climbing team together. Also it was a bit out of necessity. I started playing way out on Shipheli which Soulrift (Shipheli) has since started populating with his team. At the time there was a total of 3 active wizards, so we three teamed up with Synergy's Ri Shoo teammates so we could climb a little easier.

Reporter: What are your thoughts on the colonization effort on Ri Shoo?

Lord Morpheus: I think for the most part the colonization effort is going well. Everyone seems quite dedicated to the cause. It does take up a lot of my Pyroto time just in trying to get the word out to other mountains that we EXIST. And we're currently trying to convince Tim, Servant of TSOTL (Imaz) to open a portal so we can get new wizards, and we recently were made aware that Plains wizards that hit random mountain selection upon graduating are only sent to I believe Paz Clafi and either Imaz or Broppsfar. So I've been lobbying to get that changed so that Ri Shoo and other less populated mountains can get some new blood.

Reporter: Is there any new news on the Council of Elders for Ri Shoo?

Lord Morpheus: Not much news to report here actually. All the current members of the team have been assigned a mountain band to patroll, but since it's mostly just us members here right now, there's not much need to do any sort of rule enforcement.

It seems that most of our membership is from Broppsfar and Paz Clafi, so our sense of "right and wrong" are similar and we seem to like what they've done, so we've pretty much adopted their style.

Reporter: How long have you been on Pyroto? What is it that keeps you comming back?

Lord Morpheus: I've been playing since either late June or late July. There are so many things that keep me coming back, actually. I guess what keeps me returning is first off the Ri Shoo project, and secondly I like the trivia, as I'm a trivia nut. Thirdly I'd have to say that I enjoy reading the politics of the land and learning who all the players are. So in case I cross paths with any of them, I'll at least have some background information. And just getting to know all the different players out there on a one to one basis. I've already made quite a few friends in my travels.

Reporter: Last week, The Reporter interviewed Synergy (Please see our feature interview with Synergy last issue). Do you have any thoughts on this Wizard?

Lord Morpheus: Thoughts on the Wizard or thoughts on the wonderful woman behind the wizard? I have the good fortune to know both very very well. I assume you mean the wizard so I'll base my answer on that.

Synergy is a very intelligent wizard. I for one don't think I'd be at nearly the level I am right now if it wasn't for her extensive knowledge of science and mathematics. I'm more of an Arts kind of guy.

Also she's a wizard that's very good at talking to other wizards. She's very articulate and can get her point across a lot more easily than I can. I tend to ramble on, and she's more concise and to the point. This is especially handy when she and I go knocking on our neighbouring mountains doors wondering if they have any wizards interested in the adventure of joining up with us in colonizing Ri Shoo. I feel diplomacy is the key here. Having the co-operation of mountain rankers is the only way to go about making this mountain work in my opinion, until a portal opens. And one day we'll be strong enough a mountain to stand amongst the Pyroto's and the Paz Clafi's and the Broppsfar's of the land as a mountain worth visiting.

Reporter: Thanks for your time and may TSOTL be with you as you acend.

Lord Morpheus: You're very welcome. And for now I'm off on a recruiting mission for a week, and I'll be back on Ri Shoo before you know it.

Submit your own questionQuestion of the Week:

This week the Reporter asks: What is an Elemental? How do I know if I have one? What do they do?

That's three questions, but let's try to answer them, shall we?

What is an Elemental? An Elemental is a spirit that you pick up as a traveling companion as you acend one of the mountains of Pyroto. Some of them are beneficial, others baneful. No one, except perhaps The Inventor Mage (see the History of the Land scrolls, available to Green wizards), knows the true nature of Elementals.

How do I know if I have one? As you enter the Land, you may see a screen that tells you " . . . is with you." Then you have an Elemental. They have also been known to show up in the middle of a session. As you Send a message you may get a notice saying, "TSOTL thought that quite good. . . . agrees."

What do they do? This is the hard question. There are some Elementals that cause mysterious things to happen to your messages; different characters than those that you type may appear. Some may drain your Esteem levels down, others may grant you more. Your Elemental might charge you more Manna to cast Spells, or allow you to log in earlier than you usualy can. Elementals have even been known to deflect TSOTL's lightning botls to save a Wizard from being lost after a failed Charge spell. The simple answer to "What does an Elemental do?" is: "Whatever they want to."

Each Elemental has it's own personality, should TSOTL bless you with one's presence you will slowly come to understand what that means. Further reading: Scrolls, Elementals Ether Channel, & the Tidaretti Ether Channel.

Feedback:

This week's letter comes from . . . Subotai (Paz Clafi)

Lemur---

An excellent and purposeful web site.

I intend to refer all newbies on Paz Clafi to read it for Pyroto background info.

The chart listing levels and robe colors will help clarify to the befuddled Grayers what goes on.

I will be giving the URL to all the Paz rankers and I am sure they will all be praising the job you have done creating this site.

Thanks for giving us all another resource!!!

Tell us what you think, send your thoughts to Atypical_Lemur (atypical_lemur@hotmail.com) and your comments might appear in next issue's feedback section. Please be sure to include your: Wizard Name, Robe Color, and home mountain so we may give you credit.

The Ri Shoo Reporter will always be free to our readers, but what if you want to advertise in the reporter? For a small one time fee of 500 manna (for a 150x150 pixel image, 400 if you have your own .gif or .jpg file to use), your advertisement can run in one issue of the reporter. The ad will be retained in the back issues for eternity. For submission information contact Atypical_Lemur of Ri Shoo Mountain by E-mail.

A note on pronouns: The male and female pronouns: he, she, his and hers, are used interchangably throughout this doucment. The use of one over the other is not meant to restrict the gender of wizards involved (unless in context). Their use over the centuries has become gender neutral IMHO, and the use of just one term is more concise than than using: he/she, his or hers or some other combination in an effort to be "politicaly correct." When these terms are used read them as: he or she, his or hers, as appropriate.
