Enlisted as Private in Co E 16 Aug 1862 in Mississippi County.  Elected 2nd Lieutenant 1 Oct 1862.  Promoted to 1st Lieutenant 18 Dec 1862.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865, commanding Co E.  Residence: Mississippi County.  Died 13 Jan 1907 and is buried in Gurley, AL.

WALKER, JAMES E.: Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $125 and horse equipment at $10.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 6 Aug 1863.  Returned to command.  Killed in action during Price's Missouri Raid of 1864.

Enlisted as Private in Co D 27 Apr 1863 in Cape Girardeau County.  Detailed to herd stock 25 Jun 1863. Made a prisoner at Mine Creek, KS 25 Oct 1864.  Seriously wounded in action at place and date not of record, probably at Mine Creek.  Paroled from Gratiot Prison, St. Louis, MO 10 Jun 1865.  See pp. 812-813 in Goodspeed’s History of Southeast Missouri for a biography. His obituary is in the Missouri Cash-Book, Jackson, MO, 5 Oct 1911.  Brother of James E. Walker.

WALKER, SILAS: Age: 25. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $75 and horse equipment at $3.  Died 20 Feb 1863 at Camp Porter, AR of cause not of record.

WALKER, WILLIAM C.: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $150 and horse equipment at $10.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record). According to an article in the Collage of Cape County, Vol. 16, No. 2 (September 1996), p. 28, he accompanied Gen. Joseph O. Shelby to Texas at the end of the war but then returned home. See final entry for John F. Walker.  He was a charter member of the Captain S. S. Harris Camp, United Confederate Veterans, at Jackson, MO, in 1896. His biography is at p. 813 in Goodspeed’s History of Southeast Missouri.  Residence:  Cape Girardeau Co., MO.

WALLACE, ISAAC R.: Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co A 24 Oct 1862 in Bollinger County.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Bollinger County.

WALLACE, JACOB: Age: ?  Enlisted as Private in Co I 24 Jan 1863 in Independence County, AR.  Present Aug 1863.  (No Further Record).

WALLACE, JOHN: Age: ?  Enlisted as Private in Co H 25 Apr 1863 in Scott County.  Reported as “absent sick” on 26 Jul 1863.  Tried for desertion on 12 Oct 1863 and found guilty. Sentenced to hard labor for sixty days and to wear a 12 lb. ball and chain on his leg. Verdict set aside by Lieutenant General Theophilus Holmes on 13 Nov 1863 as not being based upon any clear evidence, and Wallace was ordered released.  Paroled at Alexandria, LA 3 Jun 1865 with detachment of troops commanded by Major J. K. Gourdain.

WALSH, P.: Age: ? His enlistment data is not of record.  Paroled as Private, Co E, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Chicot County, AR.

WALSTON, BRETON L.: Age: 17. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County. Horse appraised at $100.  Taken prisoner at Bloomfield, MO 29 Apr 1863.  Exchanged at City Point, VA on or about 2 Jun 1863.  (No Further Record).

WALTERS, JOHN C.: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co E 10 Oct 1862 in Mississippi County.  Drowned 2 Jan 1863 while crossing the Eleven Points River on the march to Batesville, AR.

WARD, SAMUEL J.: Age: 27. (Served in Missouri State Guard as Captain, 1st Infantry Battalion, 1st Division) Age: 27. He was the Captain of the “Marble City Guards,” a pre-war militia company in Cape Girardeau, which he also commanded in the Missouri State Guard as Co. A, 1st Infantry Battalion, 1st Division.  Raised a company of infantry for Confederate service that he took east of the Mississippi River.  Resigned his commission and returned to Missouri. Elected Major, Jeffers' MO Cavalry Battalion, 4 Oct 1862.  Elected regimental Lieutenant Colonel 11 Dec 1862. He commanded the regiment in the late summer 1863 while Col. Jeffers was in charge of Marmaduke’s Brigade.  Severely wounded in action (neck) at Mine Creek, KS 25 Oct 1864. Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865 commanding regiment due the absence of Col. Jeffers as a prisoner of war.  A biography of Ward is in McClure & Howe, History of Shreveport and Shreveport Builders, p. 243.  He died November 28, 1906, and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Shreveport, LA.  Residence: Cape Girardeau. 

WARE, FELIX WILSON: Age: 20. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $115.  Captured at Jackson, MO 27 Apr 1863.  Exchanged at City Point, VA on or about 2 Jun 1863.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).

WARE, MELETUS B. “LUTE”: Age: 25. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $115 and horse equipment at $5.  Deserted on scout into MO __ Apr 1863.

WARE, NATHANIEL COLE: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Deserted __ Jul 1863.

WARE, SAMUEL W.: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $125 and horse equipment at $5.  Taken prisoner at Jackson, MO 27 Apr 1863.  Exchanged at City Point, VA 2 Jun 1863.  Transferred to 4th MO Field Artillery in 1864 and paroled with that unit at Grand Ecore, LA 6 Jun 1865. Residence: Cape Girardeau County.  Living in Collin Co, TX, in 1910. His pension application is on file at the Texas State Archives, Austin, TX.  He was eventually admitted to the Confederate Home at Higginsville, MO. He died there in 1929 and is buried in the Confederate Cemetery at that locale.

WARNER, ABNER: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 26.  Enlisted as Private in Co A 2 May 1863 in Greene County, AR.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).

WARNER, ALFRED: (Served in Missouri State Guard as 3rd Lieutenant, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co A 4 Sep 1862 in Bollinger County.  Horse appraised at $125 and horse equipment at $10.  Detached to Pratt's TX Artillery Battalion in either Nov or Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).

WARNER, WILLIAM: Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co A 29 Oct 1862 in Bollinger County.  Horse appraised at $100.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).

WARREN, ALEXANDER Y.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 20.  Enlisted as Private in Co E 10 Jul 1863 at location not of record.  Killed in action at Elkin's Ferry, AR 4 Apr 1864.

WATKINS, MITCHELL: Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co H 1 Oct 1862 in Scott County.  Died of cause not of record at Pocahontas, AR 15 Dec 1862.

WATKINS, WASHINGTON LEWIS: (Served in Missouri State Guard as 2nd Lieutenant, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 26. He was the son of Brigadier General Nathaniel W. Watkins, the original commander of the First Division of the Missouri State Guard.  Enlisted in Jeffers’ independent cavalry company as a Private on 27 Feb 1862 at New Madrid.  Taken prisoner in Dunklin County May 1862. Apparently exchanged or paroled as he was appointed 1st Lieutenant and acting adjutant 12 Jun 1863 at Wittsburg, AR.  Transferred to staff of Colonel Colton Greene, commanding Marmaduke's Cavalry Brigade, at date not of record. Captured in New Madrid Co, MO 22 Nov 1863.  Described as light complexion, auburn hair, hazel eyes and 5’ 11½” in height. Paroled from prison at Fort Delaware, DE 30 May 1865 by order of Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant.

WELKER, AMOS: Age: 43. Enlisted as Private in Co G 26 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $120 and horse equipment at $5.  Paroled at Wittsburg, AR 25 May 1865.  He was the father of James B. Welker.  Residence: Cape Girardeau Co., MO.

WELKER, JACOB: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co A 19 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Record notes he was “Absent sick 1-31 Dec 1862.”  Wounded in the hand with saber at Mine Creek, KS 25 Oct 1864. Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  His pension application is on file at the MO State Archives, Jefferson City, MO.  Died 24 Apr 1924 and is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Bollinger Co, MO. His obituary is in the Banner-Press, Marble Hill, MO under date of 22 May 1924.

WELKER, JAMES B.: Age: 20. Enlisted as Private in Co G 26 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $140 and horse equipment at $5.  Promoted to 4th Sergeant 22 Nov 1862.  Deserted 3 Aug 1863.  He was the son of Amos Welker.   Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

WHITTENBERG, JOHN H.: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co G 26 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $80 and horse equipment at $8.  He was detailed and left in camp with dismounted cavalry 6 Aug 1863.  Returned to command.  Killed in action at Elkin's Ferry, AR 4 Apr 1864, according to the W. R. McGuire post-war memoir.

WHITTENBERG, LEVI: Age: 20. Enlisted as Private in Co B 19 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to Co G. Detailed as a tailor 11 Feb 1864. Captured by the enemy at Mine Creek, KS 25 Oct 1864.  Died of disease at Alton, IL military prison 10 Dec 1864 and is buried in the Confederate Cemetery at that locale.

WILKINSON, JOEL ROBERT: (Served in Missouri State Guard as 3rd Lieutenant, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 32. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $120 and horse equipment at $10.  Detailed on extra duty in the quartermaster dept 12 Dec 1862.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865. In the records of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, on file at the Western Historical Manuscript Collection, University of Missouri, Columbia, he is shown as the regimental quartermaster, but the surrender records show he was paroled as a private. Died 16 Aug 1883, and is buried in the city cemetery, Jackson, MO.

Died 19 May 1916, and is buried in the New Salem Methodist Church Cemetery, near Daisy, Cape Girardeau County, MO.

WILSON, ALEXANDER A.: Age: 18. WINTERS, BERRY W.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 35. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 26 Jul 1863.  Deserted 20 Aug 1863.

WINTERS, MATTHEW: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co E 1 Sep 1862 in Mississippi County.  Deserted 10 Oct 1862.

WOODFIN, JOHN B.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 22. Enlisted in Jeffers’ independent cavalry company as a Private in Cape Girardeau County on 8 Apr 1862.  Deserted 8 Jul 1862 in Prairie County, AR when the company was dismounted.  Enlisted as a Private in Co B 10 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Wounded in action and taken prisoner at Mine Creek, KS 25 Oct 1864.  Released on oath of allegiance at Camp Morton, IN 12 Jun 1865.

WOODFINE, DAVID: Age: 31. Enlisted as Private in Co C 20 Oct 1862 in Wayne County. Wounded in action at place and date not of record.  Jan\Feb report, 1863, indicates that he died, but no date or cause of death provided.  Probably died of his wound or complications thereof.

WOODS, ROBERT F.: Age: ?  Enlisted as Private in Co D 3 Mar 1863 at Camp Porter, AR.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry Jul 1863.  (No Further Record).

WRIGHT, ALEXANDER: (Served in Missouri State Guard as 1st Lieutenant, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 27. Enlisted as Private in Co H 1 Oct 1862 in Scott County.  Elected Captain 12 Nov 1862.  Resigned 1 Aug 1863 due to physical disability.  Resignation accepted 14 Nov 1863.  See Goodspeed’s History of Southeast Missouri, p. 952, for a biography. He died 12 Nov 1923 and is buried in the Friend Cemetery, near Oran, MO.

WRIGHT, JAMES A.: Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co C 10 Sep 1862 in Wayne County.  Appointed 3rd Corporal 24 Sep 1862.  Nov\Dec Report states: "Deserted from Searcy, AR, having been left sick."

WYATT, WILLIAM G.: Age: 19. Enlisted as Private in Co B 15 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Deserted 12 Dec 1862.

WYLIE, FELIX A.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 27. Enlisted as Private in Co H 20 Sep 1862 in Scott County.  Appointed 3rd Corporal 12 Nov 1862.  Died of cause not of record at Camp Porter, AR 3 Mar 1863.

WYLIE, JAMES W.: Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co H 1 Oct 1862 in Scott County.  Captured while on sick furlough 25 Aug 1863.  Died of typhoid fever at post hospital at Cape Girardeau, MO 15 Sep 1863 after being taken prisoner of war.

WYLIE, RUFUS A.: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co H 1 Oct 1862 in Scott County.  Died of cause not of record at Pocahontas, AR 18 Dec 1862.

WYLIE, WILSON: Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co H 20 Sep 1862 in Scott County.  Appointed 2nd Sergeant 12 Nov 1862.  Died or killed in Scott Co, MO, 12 May 1863, while on furlough.
