Letter Number 10

Jim Baskin

Hope,

Thanks for being who and what you are. It's tough on those of us out here in the world to get by daily living with what we did, and saw. But it's people such as yourself who take off the blinders and "see" the soldier, that human being who could be your husband, son, father, cousin, nephew. For that I salute you. And along with that comes this for you. I write what most people call "streams of consciousness" thoughts, so here's one for you.

I stood at amber's light so bright
Marveling at this desolate sight.
For days on end I prayed and fought
Never once thinking of what I'd bought.

It's one thing to talk of life
And another to be in it fighting for that right
So on this day I give to you
Your freedom from the Red, White and Blue.
