Unico Influenced Sightings

In this picture from Ranma 1/2, I think Ranma's psyched out expression looks too much like Lord Kuruku!

In episode 155 (Kyoufu wo Koete! Jiyu he no Jump [Over the Fear! Jump to Freedom]) of Sailor Moon in the SuperS season, the lemure of the day that JunJun unleashes on Kyusuke to get his dream mirror looks too much like Toby. I know this because I actually have this episode on tape of only two episodes I have in Japanese. You can't really tell from the picture at right, but he has a big puff of blonde hair and antenna on a hood just like Toby. Plus, Toby's original name in Japanese is Torubi. This lemure's name is Tobikiri Man, a flying acrobat. So they're names are similar plus both are definitly acrobats! Coincidence? Hmmmm.... You decide!
Informtion on lemure's name and the episode's title came from Carley's Illustrated Episode Guide at eternal-moon.org.
Tobikiri Man

Intially, D from Vampire Hunter D didn't look like anything from the Unico world. The cover illustrations to the original novels were very stylized and fine lined looking, like the picture above this paragraph. But when the movie came out in 1985, the character design sheets and his character appearance in the movie screamed Baron DeGhost look-alike! Especially in the nose, chin, hair and of course the eyes. ^_^ AND, both are vampire related critters of some sort. In the newer movie, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, just released on video this past August 2001, it isn't quite apparent anymore (it took on the style of the director, the same one from Ninja Scroll). Pictures came from sites all listed at Anime Web Turnpike

He even has a wicked looking horse like Baron DeGhost.

But is it is most apparent in the 1985 film at right and character sheets from that film like the one below.

Just a possible explaination as to why D from Vampire Hunter D might look so similar to Baron DeGhost. Both films were made during the 70's and most of the anime during that time period had the same style of animation or drawing. Of course, this is merely an observation, and not necessarily fact. Just my opinion. ^^;

Erin has a point! But, they do look alike because of that. ^_^
