Screenshots from El-Hazard's VHS boxEl Hazard may seem a bit slow at the start, but the weird scenarios that develop immediately when the magnificent world is introduced make this video nearly impossible to find it to be boring. With lack of knowledge of what happens to the established characters and the foreshadowing of characters to come, it is hard to resist buying the second VHS tape, if only to find out what other weird situations can occur. This may not be as laugh out loud funny as Tenchi Muyo! , but having a story that needs to be developed with each and every episode makes the series seem more worthwhile. Because of this, if you have not seen the first Tenchi Muyo! series, the OVAs (Original Video Animation), I advice you see this series first.

As for the technical qualities, the animation if of a rather high quality that surpasses Tenchi Muyo! (to compare, Tenchi is occasionaly shown on Cartoon Network's Toonami lineup) which has a style El Hazard's is reminisent of. Also this series has one of the best anime soundtracks.

I cannot think of many bad things to say about El Hazard (at least at the time I am writing this), this maybe one of the most solid OVA's series ever made. Only fans of the sitcom style stories can possibly resist this comedy. Of course I maybe part of the minority when you look at the pointless series/crap that are on network television (any visitor who takes exception to the above statement can reach me at bitemecouchpotatoes@animeflow.cubs)
