Celes Chere

"Oh my hero, so far away now,
Will I ever see your smile?
Love goes away, like night into day,
It's just a fading dream..."

"I'm the darkness, and you're the stars,
Our love is brighter than the sun.
And for eternity, for me there can be,
Only you my chosen one..."

"Must I forget you? Our solemn promise,
Will autumn take the place of spring?
What shall I do? I'm lost without you.
Please, speak to me once more..."

"We must part now, my life goes on,
But my heart won't give you up
Ere I walk away, but let me hear you say,
I meant as much to you..."

"So gently, you touched my heart,
I shall be forever yours...
Come what may, I won't age a day,
I'll wait for you always..."

I felt it was fully necessary to start off Celes' page with the lyrics to her famous opera song. As al who have played the game know, she stars in the opera in Maria's place so that the group can get onto Setzer's airship.

Now I'm sure that most people won't agree with me, but I can't hep but believe that rather than Terra that Celes is indeed the main Heroine in this game. She's a lot prettier than Terra and plays a much larger role, especially in the World of Ruin. I also can't help but be entranced by the love story going on between her and Locke.

Celes enters the game while Locke is trying to make his escape from South Figaro. He finds her chained up under the city after she has been proclaimed a traitor by the empire. Locke frees her from her captors and vows to protect her. Then together they make their escape from South Figaro.

As the story continues, the relationship between Celes and Locke takes some ups and downs, until the crash of the world. When Celes wakes up, one year after, she finds herself alone on a small island with Cid. If perchance, Cid dies (ie. you're too lazy to fish, or you're like me and like to see Celes throw herself from the cliff), the only thing that gives Celes the hope to go and search for her friends is being nursed back to health by a bird with Locke's Bandana. The same bandana, which in the ending sequence, she almost dies trying to grab it while the floor collapses. Of course this is my favorite part where Locke dashes to grab Celes' hand so that she won't fall and declares (in a scene 100 times more heartwarming than the end of Titanic) that he won't let go of her.
