Nathaniel Shaw served on the Committee of Safety and was agent of the colony for naval supplies and taking care of sick seamen. He sent out privateers at his own expense and furnished the militia with powder he brought from the West Indies. Washington spent the night April 9, 1776, at his home, discussing plans for the organization of a naval force. His home, when New London was burned, was saved by a Tory neighbor, and is still standing.

Stephen Harding, (1723-89), was a member of the
Committee of Inspection of Westmoreland county, 1775, and commanded the Seventh company of militia under Col. Zebulon Butler the same year. He was in charge of Fort Jenkins in the Wyoming valley when he was captured, 1778. He died at Exeter, Pennsylvania. His sons, Benjamin and Stukely, were massacred the day before the battle of

Abraham Piatt (1741-91) was captain of the second regiment, Middlesex County, New Jersey militia, Col. John Neilson 1777, also of the fifth battalion, Northumberland County militia 1778. He was born in New Jersey; died in Watsontown, Ohio. Also No. 6763. William Goforth (1731-1807) served on the Committee of Safety and was a member of the famous committee of "One Hundred," of New York City. He entered the army as captain and was in the first New York regiment under Col. Alexander McDougall in the Canadian Campaign. He was at the battle of Three Rivers and was promoted major for service in the field. He was appointed by Washington judge of the Northwestern Territory, where he died. Also No. 10715.

Burgoyne campaign until the surrender. He was wounded in battle, captured and released when the British evacuated Philadelphia. He was at Monmouth and in the expedition against the Indians, 1781, where he was taken prisoner and carried to Canada, but he made his escape in 1782. He was placed on the pension roll of Butler County, Ohio, at the age of seventy-six for service as private and lieutenant in the Pennsylvania State troops. He was born in Ireland; died in Ross, Ohio.
