Oliver Piatt and Mary Ellen Lauer

Oliver Martin Piatt was born January 22, 1853, in Virginia (probably Cabell County) or in Tipton, Missouri, to James Henry Piatt and Tabitha A Morgan and died of diabetes on September 26, 1918, in Blackwater, Clear Creek Township, Cooper County, Missouri.

Oliver married c1882 in Missouri Mary Ellen Lauer (name also found as Lower and Lowen) who was born October 21, 1856 in Iowa.

Oliver and Mary had the following known children:

They appeared as follows on the 1880 census of Clear Creek, Cooper County, Missouri:

This family was enumerated 9/131/2/5. At 9/131/2/4 (next door) was Oliver's brother, James Piatt, and his wife Nancy Belle with their family. And, at 9/131/2/28 was Oliver's step-sister, Sallie Jane Dix, with her husband, James L Dix, and his brother, Charles Dix, and Oliver's step-brother, George Piatt. Oliver's father and family were enumerated in Pilot Grove Township.

The following birth record is found in Cooper County, Missouri:

  • Name: - Piatt (female) POB: Clear Creek Twp, Cooper, Mo County: Cooper DOB: Aug 5, 1884 Father: Oliver Martin Piatt born VA farmer Mother: Mary Ellen Piatt age 27 born IA [second child] Mother Maiden: Lo[w]er or Lowen Attendant: JWH Ross, MD, Pilot Grove, MO

This birth record indicates that the female born in 1884 was Mary's second child. This does not necessarily mean that it was Oliver's second child, but, I am going to go with that assumption and list a first child for them born before 1884.

By the 1900 census of Pilot Grove Township, Cooper County, Missouri, Oliver and family appeared as follows:

Living next door was Oliver's nephew, Elmer Piatt, and family.
