William and Hannah Brady Piatt

William Piatt was born January 29, 1795, in Washington Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, to John and Elizabeth Cline Piatt and died January 6, 1876, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He married c1817 Hannah Brady who was born April 2, 1799, in Pennsylvania and who died April 26, 1847, in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of John and Jane McCall Brady. John was once the sheriff of Union County, Pennsylvania.

Children of William and Hannah Piatt are:

William and family appeared as follows on the 1830 census of Washington Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania:

This family was enumerated pg 209 #415 (Ancestry.com image 3/20; neighbors were Elizabeth (Cline) Piatt (William's widowed mother), William Piatt (William's uncle), Peter Beber, Jacob Frock, * , William Sedam, Jane Sedam, Robert Hamelton, John Shutt, Susannah Whitsett, Alexand B???rd, and James Welleschultree. This would account for William (male 30-40); sons, James B (male 5-10), Abner (male <5), and McCall (male <5); and wife, Hannah (female 30-40). Who were their other children born before 1830? The female 20-30 is probably not their child.

By the 1840 census of Washington Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, he appears as follows:

They were enumerated on pg 145 (Ancestry.com image 9/22. It appears to be William (male 40-50); sons, James B (male 20-30), Abner (male 10-15), McCall (male 5-10); daughters, Elizabeth (female <5), Mary (female 5-10); and wife, Mary (female 40-50). That leaves as unknown 1 male 20-30, 1 female 10-15 and one female 20-30. Their neighbors were Susan Wetzel, George Moores, John Reeser, Edward Birdoe, William Gazette, * , William Piatt Sen (William's uncle), William Sedam, George Berber, Catherine Farkey, John Sechler, James Witson, and Charles Wagoner. Also in Washington Township was H C Piatt (whom I believe was the son of John and Elizabeth Cline Piatt).

We know that Hannah died after this census in 1847. William appears to have married for the second time to Lucy ? who was born c1808 in Pennsylvania and who died before 1870 (probably in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania).

William and family appear as follows on the 1850 census of Washington Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania:

This family was enumerated #470/476 pg 408 (Ancestry.com image 46/51). If Hannah died in 1847, all of these children would belong to her and none to Lucy. Were Barbara or Harmon children of Lucy?

They appeared in Williamsport P O, Brady Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, on the 1860 census:

This family was enumerated #2714/2772 pg 73A (Ancestry.com image 27/31). Next door was the son, McCall. I believe the Jno Mitchell (ditto) might actually be a Mitchell and the dittos were in error. It appears that Elizabeth has most likely married by this point. Abner Piatt is in Cedar County, Iowa, by this time.

By the 1870 census, William and family appeared in Montgomery P O, Brady Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, as follows:

This family was enumerated #55/55 pg 33B (Ancestry.com image 8/10). His son McCall was still living near him at #54/54. His son, James B Piatt, had moved to Cedar County, Iowa, with other Piatt families. It appears that his wife, Lucy, has died. Was Sarah his third wife or some other relative? I am leaning toward third wife (does anyone have Lycoming County marriages?) as there was no Sarah Piatt on the 1860 census. Whom else could she have married there at that time if not William? Why else would she be living with him if he had a daughter at home who could care for him?
